Snuggly nestled within Central London is academic and leafy Bloomsbury, an area that boasts walking distance access to many of London's most popular attractions. It is also home to some of Britain's most celebrated museums, including the must-see British Museum. Despite an understandable popularity with students, tourists and day trippers, vast sections of Bloomsbury retain a quiet, residential feel year round and throughout the week.

She made such a huge impact on the Allies winning WW2, it was an honor to visit her beautiful and subtle monument. She deserves so much more attention for all she achieved.

I love this statue. She has quite a story and now there is a blue plaque on the house she lived in just around the corner at 4 Taviton Street. She is also listed on the Commonwealth Gates in Green Park. She has a display at the International Spy Museum in Washington DC. She is listed on the Tempsford Memorial in Bedfordshire. Also listed on the Vera Atkins seat at the National Memorial Arboretum. I glad to see she and other women of the SOE so honored.

This bust tucked away in a quiet corner of Gordon Square is a fitting memorial to one of the unsung heroines of the last war. She was one of the SOE spies parachuted into France to bolster the French resistance and to coordinate sabotage activities against the occupying German forces. Sadly, she was caught and eventually executed at the notorious Dachau concentration camp. Seeing this statue is an emotional reminder of the sacrifices so many brave people made to resist Fascism in the 20th century.

British heroine of Second World War who worked as a radio operator in the French section of the Special Operation Executive. She was betrayed and executed in September 1944. Her father was a great grandson of Tipu (an eighteenth century prince). Khan was awarded the George Cross after her death. The statue is in Gordon Square as it faces onto the University of London's Institute of Archaeology. It is placed in a nice quiet corner of the square and the square is near Euston and Kings Cross and one of the quieter London public squares

This bust of Noor-un-Nisa Inayat Khan, was erected in memory to a British spy and heroine of World War II renowned for her service in the Special Operations Executive. She was sent to occupied France to work as a wireless operator for the French Resistance. Betrayed by a double agent, she was tortured for months, but did not betray her comrades. Eventually she was sent to Dachau concentration camp and executed on the morning of 13th of December.

This bust is a simple and elegant likeness of the heroine, showing Khan with a serene look on her face. A wonderful tribute to someone who wanted to serve her country and fight fascism.

The beautiful and serene little space, Gordon Square, is the home of a statue to a little known heroine of World War II, Noor Inayat Khan, who, as a British SOE agent infiltrated Nazi occupied France. Casting aside her own safety, she stayed at her post too long and was eventually captured by the Nazis and imprisoned, tortured and ultimately executed at the infamous Dachau concentration camp. Definitely worth a visit, and worth some reflection, as her life story is very moving and inspirational.

Noor Inayat Khan, a descendant of the legendary Tipu Sultan, was a Secret Agent in the Second World War. She was infiltrated into France by the Special Operations Executive (SOE), Churchill's secret organisation that sought to "set Europe ablaze." This sculpture is located in Gordon Square close to the Bloomsbury house where Ms Khan lived as a child in 1914 and where she returned while training for the SOE during WWI. Ms Khan was posthumously awarded the George Cross for her work in France and for revealing nothing of use to her interrogators despite being tortured by the Gestapo for 10 months. In September, 1944, Ms Khan was executed at Dachau concentration camp. She was only 30. This is the first stand-alone memorial to an Asian woman in the UK.

I asked for this to be listed as I have just seen an article about this site which I visited last year and that article reminded me of my visit.

I already knew the story and was tremendously moved by seeing the memorial to this brave and selfless woman.

As an Indian Muslim Princess, Noor Inayat Khan held a passport of the Empire and strong views against the evils of fascism. She was fluent in French and was the first radio operator to be sent into France on behalf of the Allies. Unfortunately their group was infiltrated and betrayed and many arrests by the Gestapo followed. She avoided them, and despite being urged by her handlers in London to return, she refused to let her friends and colleagues in the French Resistance be bereft of radio communications, She remained as the sole radio channel for three months until her inevitable arrest. Despite months of the most terrible torture, she betrayed no one and was eventually taken to Dachau and shot dead.

That there is a link to this wonderfully brave woman in the shape of this bust keeps the memories of the War and of her heroism alive, as should be.

I am one who was born soon after the War and knew rationing so I take all the steps I can to remember and honour those courageous people who paid the ultimate price. This is another story that should never be forgotten and I am so pleased that this site is there so that some will see the costs that they are free and be grateful to those who passed on in dreadful circumstances.
