A guide to online services

My Manchester

My Manchester is your one-stop-shop student portal, where pretty much anything you need to do as a student can be done. It'll be the most important website you'll use during your time at the University, so knowing how it works is essential, and will ensure you use it to its full potential. Here's a quick guide to My Manchester's key features:

Using the tabs in My Manchester

  • Homepage - your homepage is fully customisable, so you can add, move around, and delete boxes as you wish. But if you're planning a boxes cull, it's worth keeping the My News tab to stay aware of key messages from the University and to keep up to date with all that's going on around campus and beyond!
  • My Course - here you'll find course related information, such as your timetable, course unit information and examination timetable (when it gets published).
  • My Blackboard - links you through to Blackboard, the University's online learning system. Here you'll find content from your modules, including lecture powerpoints and find interactive tools like discussion boards.
  • My Library - allows you to access library services, including searching the library catalogue, booking study rooms and viewing and changing your library PIN.
  • My Services - here's where you do administrative tasks, such as registering for the new academic year or updating your personal information. Importantly, it is also where you access the student system, where you select modules and can see your grades.
  • My Future - careers related info, including news, updates and events listings from the Careers Service and part time job listings.
  • My Campus Life - here you can find a whole host of information on ways to enhance your life as a student of the University, including sport and volunteering opportunities.
  • My Union - news and updates from your Students' Union.

Customising My Manchester

NOTE: My Manchester is also available through the iManchester App for mobile devices.  Download it for Apple iOS here, or for Android here.

Blackboard

Blackboard is the University's online learning system. It's where content from your course units will be posted, such as lecture slides or tutorial activities. Your lecturer or course unit leader may also use it to communicate with you, so it's important you check it regularly.

You can access Blackboard via My Manchester through the My Blackboard tab. Here you will see your course units listed for the semester. Clicking on each one will take you to the homepage for that unit and will allow you to access any content your course unit leader uploads.

If teaching has started and you cannot see the course units you expect:

  1. Check you're enrolled on the unit on the Student System (through My Manchester)
  2. Check with your course unit leader to ensure they've made it visible
  3. See the Blackboard Student Support site

It can take up to 24 hours after enrolling on a course to be able to see it in My Manchester so please be patient. Also, please note you won't be able to see your Semester 2 courses on Blackboard until 2015.

- A Blackboard App is also available for Apple iOS (download here) and Android (download here).
