Panos Kotzathanasis Asian Movie Pulse Although “Hunger” can also be perceived as a missed chance for Mongkolsiri to make his comments and essentially his narrative, more pointed, the film as a whole, works excellently, as the direction, the acting, and the visuals are truly outstanding Rated: 7.5 May 7, 2023 Full Review Juan José Beteta Cinencuentro The film not only questions haute cuisine as a mechanism for social advancement, but also demystifies it.. [Full review in Spanish] Apr 28, 2023 Full Review Tatat Bunnag Bangkok Post Despite all the flaws, Hunger is still worth watching, especially for those who love intense drama and exotic settings. Apr 21, 2023 Full Review Dennis Schwartz Dennis Schwartz Movie Reviews A predictable but tasty foodie-drama. Rated: B Apr 18, 2023 Full Review Luke Buckmaster Flicks (AU, NZ, UK) The 130 minute runtime is too long, lacking tightness and rigor. And yet the film coasts along quite well - never exceptional but never poorly made. Your appetite for psycho chef drama will be satisfied. Apr 18, 2023 Full Review Matt Pais MattPais.com Progressively acknowledges the reasons different people aim high and the difficulty in ever filling a need that may be inherently insatiable. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/03/24 Full Review JapanLoveri f The visuals and soundtrack were the best part of this movie. Not sure if the main character was hired only because she's good at crying on cue or if it's because she looks the part. Plot was underdeveloped in terms of having good themes but poor execution of them. There were times I questioned what I was doing with my time in watching this but stayed for the hope that the movie would get better. It didn't. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/22/24 Full Review John S The scenes with the food being eaten were very visceral and slightly disgusting to watch, but that added to the movie. It also makes a good critique on the desires and "hunger" of people Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/13/24 Full Review Richard S This movie is fantastic. Truly touching. The cinematics, the plot, the character development and the underlying theme all work together so well. I won't spoil anything about it because I do recommend you see it. It's a story about so much more than food and a young lady trying to prove herself in the food industry. I could say so much more but I don't want to ruin it. 2.5 hours long, and very much worth the watch Edit: After I had some time to consider plot weaknesses I changed my rating from 5 to 4.5 Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/04/24 Full Review Ian W What do you get when you cross Crazy Rich Asians and Gordon Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares? Hunger! A very simple plot. It 'looks' good. Be prepared to endure a lot of slow motions of a wok in action. I get the feeling that if this film was shot in London, New York, Paris, Munich - it would have been ripped to shreds by the critics. But it's a Thai film silly, critics stand together, be prepared to fawn. The finale 'cook off' was just plain silly. The film was too long. Just cutting out the wok shots would have saved at least 30 minutes. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/30/24 Full Review Read all reviews
