All our fares include one small personal bag which can be brought on board, such as a handbag or laptop bag (40x20x25cm), which must fit under the seat in front of you. If you need additional baggage allowance, there are various options available to you.

1: Cabin Baggage:

  • Priority & 2 Cabin Bags: This allows you to carry a small personal bag (40x20x25cm), which must fit under the seat in front of you and a 10kg bag (55x40x20cm) onboard, to be stored in the overhead locker. It also allows you to board the plane first using the Priority Boarding queue at the gate.

2: Checked Baggage:

  • 10kg Check-in Bag: If you wish to check in a bag, you can add a 10kg Check-in Bag to your booking. Bags must be dropped at the airport check-in desk before security and will be placed in the aircraft hold.
  • 20kg Check-in Bag: If you require a larger baggage allowance, you can add a 20kg Check-in Bag to your booking. Passengers can purchase up to 3 checked bags of 20kg on their booking.

3: Infant Baggage

  • We know that travelling with an infant can be stressful, so we allow you to carry 2 items of baby equipment free of charge per child, to make your journey as seamless as possible. There is no cabin bag allowance for an infant (aged 8 days to 23 months inclusive). However, we allow a baby bag up to 5kg (dimensions: 45x35x20cms) for babies travelling on an adult's lap.
  1. Click ‘My Bookings’ on Ryanair’s website or ‘My trips’ on the mobile app.
  2. Log into your myRyanair account.
  3. Select ‘Manage this booking’ on the booking you need to change.
  4. Select the ‘Add bags/equipment’ option.
  5. Add bags/equipment needed.
  6. Continue to payment.
  7. Enter in your payment details and click ‘Pay Now’. You’ll then receive an updated email itinerary with the added bags/equipment.
  8. Once the change is confirmed, you will be brought back to the upcoming trip page.

  Add Bags/Equipment

You must adhere strictly to the baggage allowance on your booking. If your small bag or 10kg cabin bag does not fit in the baggage sizers, which are placed at every boarding gate, we will tag your bag and place it in the aircraft hold subject to payment of a gate bag fee. You can collect it on the baggage carousel at your arrival airport.

If a small bag is not sufficient and Priority & 2 Cabin Bags is sold out, you can still add a 10kg Check-in Bag to your booking. However, you will need to drop this 10kg Check-in Bag at our airport check-in desk before going through security.

The maximum dimensions of a 20kg Check-in Bag are 80 x120cms x120cm.

Sports & Music Equipment Luggage

You are permitted to carry any sports equipment with you onboard as long as it fits within your cabin bag allowance. For sports equipment that exceeds our cabin baggage dimensions, you can opt to pay an extra seat fare for it. To do this, you must purchase an extra flight ticket and seat. To book this extra seat, the word EXTRA must be entered as the first name, and ITEM SEAT must be entered as the surname.

To purchase a seat for equipment, click here. There is no checked or cabin baggage allowance associated with the purchase of an extra seat.

If your equipment does not fit in your Cabin Bag and you do not wish to purchase an extra seat, you can choose to check it in and pay the applicable fee. Prices for categories of sports equipment vary. See our Table of Fees.

If your sports equipment weighs over the 20kg allowance (bike is 30kg allowance), you will be charged at the applicable excess baggage rate per kilo. See our Table of Fees.

*Bicycles (max weight 30kg), - MUST be contained in a protective box or protective bike bag in order to be accepted for travel. Electric bicycles cannot be transported on Ryanair’s aircraft.

You can carry any music equipment with you onboard as long as it fits within your Cabin Bag allowance. For smaller music equipment like guitars or violins that exceed your cabin baggage dimensions, you can opt to pay an extra seat fare for it.

If your equipment does not fit in your Cabin Bag allowance and you do not wish to purchase an extra seat, you can choose to check it in against payment of a fee. See our Table of Fees.

If your music equipment weighs more than the 20kg allowance, you will be charged at the applicable excess baggage fee rate per kilo. See our Table of Fees.

You may decide not to avail of the equipment allowance you purchased, but you will not be able to remove it from your booking or get a refund once purchased. See Article 10 of our General Terms and Conditions of Carriage for information on our Refund policy.

Excess Baggage

Yes. You can increase your baggage allowance on 20kg bags when you check in for your flight online. Passengers can add up to 3kg in excess baggage to each 20kg Check-in Bag for a fee when checking in online, up to 2 hours before departure.

Excess baggage options are unavailable to be purchased online on flights departing from certain airports, included but not limited to Milan Bergamo, Birmingham, Bologna, Bristol, Cardiff, Dublin, Edinburgh, Krakow, Leeds Bradford, Manchester, Naples, Newcastle, London Stansted. If you are departing from any of these airports and need to purchase excess baggage allowance, you can do so at the airport check-in desk.

You can purchase excess baggage at the Airport Ticket Desk.

Damaged, Lost or Delayed Bags

Any lost, delayed, or damaged checked baggage must be reported to the Lost Property Desk at your arrival airport. There you will be given a Property Irregularity Report (PIR), which will include a 10-character file reference, which will allow you to verify if there is any update on the tracing of your bag. This reference is located at the top of the report (EG. STNFR12345). You may track your bag by clicking here.

Please note that the reporting of lost, delayed or damaged checked baggage at your arrival airport does not constitute a baggage claim. A claim has to be submitted separately with Ryanair.

Once you have reported your checked-in bag as damaged/delayed/lost at your arrival airport and have received a Property Irregularity Report (PIR), you can submit a claim form to Ryanair. You can find this baggage claim form here. The 10-character file reference found on your PIR Report must be included when making your claim. This reference is located at the top of the report (EG. STNFR12345). Claims cannot be processed unless the case has been reported at your arrival airport and a PIR has been issued.

Lost, delayed, or damaged checked baggage must be reported to the Lost Property Desk at your arrival airport. Once this is done, you must submit your claim to Ryanair within the following time limits (set by the Montreal Convention 1999 and Ryanair’s Regulations on Lost, Delayed or Damaged Baggage – See More).

  • Damaged Baggage – Once reported at the arrival airport, the claim must be submitted to Ryanair within 7 days from the date of damage;
  • Misplaced Baggage – Once reported at the arrival airport, the claim must be submitted to Ryanair within 21 days from the date on which the Baggage was misplaced.

Damaged/delayed baggage claims will be processed within 15 working days, while lost baggage claims will be processed within 28 working days or once the full tracing process is complete.

We will contact you by post or email when there is an update regarding your claim.

If you are unhappy with our assessment of your claim, you can contact your local Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) body with your complaint.

Alternatively, you can also refer our decision to the European Commission Online Dispute Resolution (ODR) service. When filling in the trader details field on the ODR webform, you will need to provide the following email address: odr@ryanair.com. This email address is solely used for the ODR process and queries submitted by customers to this email address will not receive a response.
