Though Penny Marshall did take a risk making this film about women’s professional baseball she did not, however, take any risks when telling the story. It is your typical sports film with some conflict and then heroism.

This is one of my favourite films of all time. I watch it every time it's on TV. Good cast and Tom Hanks is terrific as the has been coach. This film led me to investigate the real story of the women's baseball league.

Marshall lays the sappiness a bit thick (always her biggest problem) and I'm not sure the scenes set in "modern day" that open and close the film are even necessary, but the ensemble is so fantastic and the movie is so entertaining and funny that I don't really care.

Fun, heartwarming, and iconic American sports film. You can tell the actors had a blast making it. Tom Hanks puts in one of his most entertaining performances as manager Jimmy Dugan. It doesn't stop there with incredibly entertaining performances by Madonna and Rosie O'Donell. Geena Davis (Dottie) and Lori Petty (Kit) are at the core of the film and move everything forward, and you can't help falling in love with them. There are moments of fall out of your chair laughter, moments of gut wrenching drama and despair - tying together one of the more unique and incredible stories from WWII American history. It feels a little overlong and suffers a bit from structure but this should not be missed and revisited often. You'll recite iconic lines for years to come.
