Walking with Dinosaurs vs Prehistoric Planet

What would you recommend for a Dinosaur-obsessed 6 year old? He will be watching it himself, so please let me know if gore is an issue with any of them

Prehistoric Planet is heavily sanitised with regards to violence and animal suffering. Prey items are either rapidly swallowed whole or killed behind a conveniently placed obstruction.

Walking with series pulls no punches with depicting nature at it's most brutal, including close ups of mutilated animals.

I grew up on it, and honestly I loved it.

What close ups of mutilated animals? The only one is from the Big al special with the stegosaurus corpse in the watering hole.

Edited

Time of the Titans = smouldering charred corpses of burnt ornithopods, bloody gashes on Diplodocus flank after Allosaurus attack.

Cruel Sea = closeup of rear-half of bisected Opthalmosaurus

Giant of the Skies = closeup of Utahraptor feeding on Iguanodon carcass. Juvenile Ornithocheirus scavenging on carcass of adult.

Spirits of the Ice Forest = closeup of bloody face of Muttaburrasaurus carcass, polar allosaur decapitates mother Leaellynasaura.

Death of a Dynasty = Dead tyrannosaurus embryo. closeup of snapped Torosaurus horn, mutilated Torosaurus baby, butchered Triceratops carcass.

Most of these i feel stupid for forgetting but what the hell i forgot about the torosaurus baby

In terms of content, I think both are fine; kids are often made of sterner stuff than we give them credit for. I would go with Prehistoric Planet, though, just because it's more up-to-date information. A kid has the right to grow up with the best dinosaurs available.

WWD has more gore

Definitely Prehistoric Planet.

Sure WWD has more gore but its still very light. I watch it back in the day when it was on the kids channel n i was 6.

I was 8 years old when I watched Walking With Dinosaurs (recorded it on VHS on my parents' TV. It was amazing. The gore was there but it wasn't over the top.

Prehistoric Planet is less violent, not to mention more accurate.

Prehistoric Planet has more up-to-date information and is less gory, but I will say that I adored WWD as a 6 year old, so I don’t think the gore is too hard to handle or anything like that. Nothing wrong with letting him see both!

Walking With Dinosaurs is a lot more violent. That said, I watched it when I was 6, and didn't have much issue with it.

I'd still go with Prehistoric Planet, though, because it's more up-to-date.

if we talk about today like today prehistoric planet >>>. but if we talk about influence walking with Dinosaurs >>> , he was among the first if not the first to show Dinosaurs as nature and nothing else

I prefer the story structure of Walking with, where it focuses on a "main character" for each chapter, instead of jumping around from place to place to squeeze in multiple locations per episode.

Less Planet Earth, and more in line with the animal documentaries I grew up with in the 90's and early 2000's, which tended to focus on individual specimens and their struggles to survive over the course of a season (as in dry season, wet season, etcetera).

Both, they are both amazing, but WwD uses outdated designs. So for learning I’d go with prehistoric planet

WWD does have a bit of gore in it; albeit it depends how much your kid can handle. Prehistoric planet has very little and what it does have isnt that bad. Both are great, but in terms of visuals and accuracy your kid will likely enjoy prehistoric planet more. WWD still holds up quite well though.
