This is a fun film in what it is, not what it is in comparison to another movie. WWDL? What would Dali prefer, this or "The Devil Rides Out" ? Fourth Wall all over the place and cliches distorted. Very entertaining. What puzzles me is why reviewers who find it so contemptible watch it at all. Perhaps because of anticipation of what they believe will be a witty and cutting review they can post or do they find it enjoyable in spite of themselves?

Hilarious, trippy, still much bettter than 90% of the hollywood crap being made these days!

Manos: The Hands of Fate is a horror movie about a young family being trapped in a lodge in the desert, while its owner summons the evil demon Manos. Conventional criteria of quality can't really be used for describing the movie's features, as there are countless apparent flaws in the production, e.g., the plot, the acting quality, and the editing. However, in a way, all these problematic technical aspects sum up to a fascinating experience that doesn’t bear any resemblance to what most come to expect from movies in general. Therefore, it can be watched for escapist entertainment, mocking the low quality or even for technical analyses. Ultimately, as a movie, Manos: The Hands of Fate, can only be recommended as a prime example of what not to do.

Was this flick the result of monumental incompetence or bad drugs? I can't believe it wasn't both. Anything you might imagine could be wrong with a movie is wrong with this one, plus much, much more. Beyond bad it is excruciatingly bad, and just when you think it couldn't possibly get any worse, it falls off another cliff. Anyone who claims Ed Wood is the world's worst director should be condemned to watch this cinematic catastrophe a dozen times. Nevertheless it grudgingly gets three stars because it does provide some entertainment in the form of sick fascination, and the spastic caretaker, Torgo, is hilarious - unintentionally of course.

This movie anticipates all those lost on the road pictures from the 70's like Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Pigs, The Hills Have Eyes and Eaten Alive
but with a Satanic Cult thrown into the mix.
The villain called "The Master" is a dead ringer for Anton Zandor LeVey the author of the satanic bible and his henchman "Torgo" is deformed and twisted like a real life satyr. A very low budget effort but worth seeing at least once.

Dude, it is being made by big fans of the movie. The guy who will play Torgo, goes to Comic-con as him. And it is also being made in the same flavor as the first. It will be a 'made to be a B-movie' movie. It ought to be great.

I guess movies like this are like beatnik art. You have to get it to like it.

I just read that this so-called "movie" is going to have a sequel that will start shooting in 2011 and be released in 2013. While it can't be any worse than the first, I wonder what the producers of "Manos: The Search For Valley Lodge" are thinking. I guess Hollywood really is running out of ideas.

As we have w20m x h13m outdoor cinema screen and 15000 ANSI digital Christies projector we would need maximum quality from the screened film´s digital file. The current mpeg file most likely remains little lo-fi for our resolution capacity.

At least somebody had the balls to put their money where their mouth is and make this film! No, I don't like it very much, but I do respect the energy and work involved in the making of it (especially after watching the documentary Hotel Torgo), so I'll save all my snark for big budget bullshit that has no excuse...like Lord of the Rings, Superman Returns, or Avatar.

Just finished watching the Hotel Torgo documentary, and enjoyed it. Don't think I'll ever watch Manos: The Hands of Fate without the MST3K treatment though. It's one painfully bad film, worse than The Beast of Yucca Flats.

not so good

I don't know whether to thank the submitter or put a hit out on him/her. This was the first time I've seen it without Joel and the 'bots for "company", and the experience was too much for words. I cried, out of pain and sympathy (for Mr. Warren and Torgo), and laughed (mostly at Torgo).

Seriously though, my "really really bad movie" collection wasn't complete until now. I really think this one tops Plan 9 for the Golden Turkey. I cannot in good concience give this one 5 stars (but I want to for the sheer entertainment value). If you watch this and you haven't seen the MST version, may God have mercy on you.

Fans of this film may want to Google "Hotel Torgo," a documentary about the making of "Manos" starring the boy who was making out with the girl in the convertable.

Made on a bet, this is amateurish film is pure gold for bad film fans. Other may find it near unwatchable. The wikipedia page on this film is well worth reading.

This movie was made infamous by Mystery Science Theater 3000 (it was the only movie so bad that both mads actually apologized to Joel and the bots for just how bad it was), and the entire movie can be summed up by one of the quips tossed at it.

Joel and the bots had been warned -- at some length -- how bad Manos would be. When the movie starts, it goes on for a bit, and Tom Servo remarks: "Hey, this isn't so bad. What are we, about thirty minutes into the movie?"

Joel: "More like thirty seconds."

Tom Servo (in stunned disbelief): "....No!"

It just goes on... and on... and on... and on...

(And the hands never push him over, either.)
