My name is Margaret R. Matte [ˈmæɾi], but you can call me Maggie. I am a Level II student in the PhD Program in Linguistics at the CUNY Graduate Center.
I study Passamaquoddy-Maliseet, an endangered language spoken in Maine, USA and New Brunswick, CA. I had the privilege of taking two courses under a native speaker at the University of Southern Maine and have done research into the historical development of geminates in the language, which I presented this past January at the LSA 2024 Annual Meeting. I am currently working on my second Qualifying Paper on loan word phonology and morphology in Passamaquoddy-Maliseet.
My general research interests are: Passamaquoddy-Maliseet, phonology, syntax, wh-question syntax/structure, and historical linguistics.
