We went to Portland and Camden on this visit and we found Camden more responsible and vibrant than Portland. Shops and restaurants were open and almost everybody was wearing a mask and kept distance. Lots of choices and a good atmosphere.

This is the place to stay. High Street is just beautiful. The historic homes are from the 19th century and have a date plaque on each building. The range was approximately 1810-1865. The street is lined with B&Bs and it is an easy walk to the center of Camden.

Pick up a map/guide at the Chamber of Commerce by the harbormaster, read about the history of Camden then follow one of the suggested walks or just wander. Many beautiful 19th century houses recall the town’s illustrious past.

Really fun shops..much more than just souvenir shopping. Water and water features make this town a must see. Crowded and tough to park but go see it...only takes an hour or so.

One of the highlights of childhood memory was driving through Camden at Christmas! The grand historic homes are all decked out and there is the star on Mt. Battie.

One of the nicer villages in Maine. Great walks around the historic district and surrounding areas. The stores are a little "touristy," but nice homes and carefully attended gardens.

A stately granite statue, called the Civil War Soldier’s Monument was located in Harbor Park in the High Street Historic District. A uniformed Union soldier stood at parade rest, hands on the barrel of a rifle in front of him, poised on a tiered base. Inscriptions were on four faces of the base; three faces listed names. Dedicated in 1899, the monument commemorated Camden’s soldiers who fought and died in the “Great Rebellion” of 1861-1865, a dated reference to what most now call the “Civil War”. Its base was 6 feet (1.8 m) square; total height was 17 feet (5.2 m). I most liked the detail in the soldier’s features and uniform. I disliked nothing.

This beautiful 90 year old library added an underground entrance - or on the lower level. This allowed for the beautiful "skylight" you see in the picture, that actually lights up the bottom level of the library. There are historical panels to read and wonderful librarians.
