RPI doctoral candidate Lily Donaldson crowned Miss United States

Donaldson who is studying controlled environmental agriculture at the Troy institution won the pageant Sunday in her home state of Tennessee

TROY — Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute is saluting one of its students, Lily K. Donaldson, after she was named Miss United States on Sunday.

Donaldson is pursuing her doctorate in controlled environmental agriculture, RPI notes. She's an advocate for studies in science, technology, engineering and math.

Donaldson was crowned Sunday night at the Cannon Center in Memphis, in her home state of Tennessee, according to the local ABC affiliate.

Though she's from Tennessee, Donaldson represented New York in the competition.

The station reports Donaldson worked for NASA and other federal agencies and plans to resume work with the federal government when she completes her Ph.D.
