Rupert Everett would for sure murder you dead if you ever brought up this movie to him or ask him about making it at all. The fun part is imagining the exotic ways in which he would kill you. My current favorite is him beating me to death with the script for My Best Friend's Wedding.
A good movie is hiding deep under the surface of this film. Add a bit of nuance, a better lead actress (not that I think Madonna is all that bad), a much much much better soundtrack, and cut out about an hour of it, and you could have something great. Instead, we have a muddled mess of a film with a lot of bad decisions and worse dialogue bogging it down.

This was such a weird movie, me and my sister watched it on TV. The story was very weird, but I kinda liked it honestly. The acting wasn't bad Madonna did a really good job in this movie and the guy that played her best friend was good as well.
Overall if you like basic romantic drama movies then watch it.

Madonna’s character in this movie, much like Madonna, starts out as a fun fag hag but is later revealed to just be a horrible straight person.
This is a garbage film with garbage characters and a garbage message. It's embarrassing that this is John Schlesinger's last film. And, regardless of her talent as a singer, Madonna is a horrible actor and if you were unsure about that, this film lays it right out, clear as day.
Nothing like a quirky rom-com that uses the AIDS crisis as cute window dressing by the way.
