Descripción del producto
In 1971, Atlantic Records released a pair of Dusty Springfield singles produced by the legendary songwriter/producer Jeff Barry (one-time songwriting and romantic partner of Ellie Greenwich, and author of too many hits to name): "Haunted"/"Nothing Is Forever" and "I Believe In You"/"Someone Who Cares." A restless Dusty, freshly relocat- ing to America from her native England, then departed the label and left 9 songs recorded with Barry in the can, where they stayed until. Rhino issued one track, "Faithful" (in mono), as a bonus track on the 1990s CD release of Dusty's 1970 Atlantic album A Brand New Me. The other tracks didn't surface until a subsequent deluxe reissue of Dusty's landmark 1969 album Dusty in Memphis included them as bonus cuts. Now, reissue producer Jim Piersonwho tracked down the missing masters after being lost for over two decades has assembled all of Dusty's Barry--produced masters and put them together in a single package for the first time to create the third Dusty Springfield Atlantic Records album as planned in 1971. Real Gone Music's release of Faithful presents these historic Barry-Springfield collaborations exactly as they were originally intended to be heard, with the 12 tracks intended for the album release and one intended for single-only release. All tracks are in stereo, while the liner notes, penned by The Second Disc's Joe Marchese, feature a number of rarely-seen photos of the legendary singer. These stunning pop, soul and gospel flavored selections showcase the iconic singer at the height of her vocal magic. A missing/jumbled part of Dusty's august recorded legacy, finally set right!

There's nothing more can be said about these recordings as they have been available for some time in the public domain - superb well crafted songs produced by the talent that is Jeff Barry. As a thread weaving its way through Dusty's late 60's early 70's releases - this release does complete that `missing' gap in 1971 making for a sublime trio of LP's starting in 1969 with Dusty In Memphis followed by From Dusty with Love in 1970 and now a natural conclusion - Faithful. There's a further gap in 1972 - Philip Records' See all her faces - although not the `hodgepodge' affair as Joe Marchese described this album - but - an ill conceived compilation nevertheless. The situation was rectified with Cameo in 1973 ( with the exception of the notoriously bizarre artwork - it has to be seen to be believed ) but there the thread broke and came to an abrupt halt during the summer 1974 recordings for the Elements / Longing project until quite a few years later.
The running order of the 13 tracks on this CD works incredibly well including a 1971 US only b side. The accompanying booklet is informative with period pictures - it would have been great to see a complete interview with Jeff Barry rather than I suspect the brief telephone interview contained within consisting of just mere snippets of detail on this recording session. ( A more comprehensive version - just - of this interview is available on Rhino's 1999 Dusty in Memphis deluxe CD where some of these recordings feature as bonus tracks. ) Also - I wonder what `ideas' Atlantic Records had in mind for the artwork of this intended album. I'm not too sure at what stage during 1971 when the pictures contained on the cover and within the booklet were taken exactly and for what purpose. Perhaps Paul Howes - whose absence is surprising from this CD - can give a more detailed answer. Certainly the cover of the CD is very '1971' but rather in the mould of the budget range from Decca's World of.... or MFP's The Most of...
Here's a question - did Dusty suit being a red head? - I suspect not.
The very fact that this CD is released in 2015 is testament to the enduring appeal and in some cases obsession (including myself) with Ms Springfield - both her life and recordings. Next on the agenda is Come For A Dream - The U.K. Sessions 1970-1971 to be released next month - I rest my case..........
'Haunted', 'Someone Who Cares', 'Natchez Traces' & 'I Found My Way Through The Darkness' are all first class and 'Nothing Is Forever' is a Dusty classic. Sadly the other tracks are a bit on the weak side. Her cover versions of 'Make It With You' and 'You've Got A Friend' don't add anything to the originals mainly due to the rather lack lustre arrangements. The sleeve notes are good but the photos, the few that there are, don't set the heather alight!
'A Brand New Me' is my fav Dusty album so 'Faithful' would have had a hard act to follow. If neither of her previous Atlantic albums could set the charts on fire then 'Faithful' never stood a chance. Still as I'm a completest I'm very happy that a missing chapter has been found. BTW for me it's really a 3.5 star album but as that's not possible on here I've rounded it up to 4 stars.
I couldn't wait to hear this CD so listened to it in the car on the way home, then didn't want to get out of the car so sat in the driveway so I could finish it. It's that good!
