The town of Ithaca is great and has everything. It’s a pretty terrific college town. The Ithaca College campus, however, is outdated, run down, and frankly embarrassing for what the tuition is. The Food is horrible in the dining halls. While the professors are generally good, any of them with opportunities are fleeing. There were massive layoffs a few years back, and the repercussions of losing experienced professors are still being felt. The administration is incompetent — even the simplest things needed to run a college somehow can’t get done. I will likely transfer soon, and strongly recommend that anyone considering Ithaca College explore your other options — Ithaca College is just not a very good school and you deserve better.
I like life around campus generally, but the school doesn’t seem to be being run in an effective orderly manner. Why are we being served raw food? Because there is a lack of regard for student living conditions. Why have 80% of my professors in the last two years been one year hires who are no longer here? Because there is no care for student staff connection only worries about money and how we look.
False Promises ~ I've come to realize this is something that is extremely prominent in the media/entertainment field. All throughout my time at Ithaca College we were told that since we were attending a "top 20 communications school", and had a "welcoming alumni network" so we would almost have a guaranteed career post graduation (which heavily influenced my decision to attend). I always crossed my t's and dotted my i's. I took my academics seriously, took on leadership roles in classes/clubs, held multiple internships, and consistently practiced my craft. I did what I was told by my leaders at this institution to earn a career. Now I begin to ask myself... "What was it all for?"
I call on Ithaca College and its associated professors to fix their deceptive marketing techniques to accurately display what a life post grad could be like. Not all of your students will go straight to major studios. Most are struggling to make ends meet and are doing odd jobs just to get by.
