And then....

That gets used way too often in our house...our son still hasn't seen the movie so he just looks at us quizzically.

We quote stuff so much we can no longer remember where we got them from.

No and then...

AND THEN AND THEN AND THEN!!

We do movie & standup quotes. They’re like our own little inside jokes.

It’s basically all I do, but usually with GIFs. If one doesn’t exist, I’ll make it.

that was way harsh, Tai

Every single day!

My jurisdiction does a street cleaning blitz in spring to clear off all the gravel put down on ice in the winter (Canadian here), and if you are parked on the street the day yours is getting cleanerd, they ticket and tow it, usually around the corner. For context, signs are put up warning of the street cleaning a few days in advance.

I call this the annual “Dude, Where’s My Car” game. Watched a neighbor get towed like three years in a row, even after I warned him.

Where's your car, dude?

All day every day. And it's not just the youngins...apparently there's a fair few of my circle of friends with zero pop culture knowledge

I mostly do this with people I know. Mostly.

One time I saw this kid with a shirt that said "you're killing me smalls" complete with a full body photo of Hamiliton "the Babe" Porter. I said bro, I havent seen that movie in for eeeh verr. The kid says, "what movie?" 🤔🙄

Dude, probably 65% of my wife’s and my communication is movie quotes and inside jokes. It’s why I married her, among 576 other reasons.

Uhhh yes.

Its essentially how me, hubby and half his cousins communicate. :)

A relatives BF made a joke, making up a new word using our last name, which ended up sounding a little like 'unloading', which meant to insert movie references or lines into casual conversation regularly.

My brother does it too sometimes.

Almost near constantly.

Yes and I sigh

I don’t. I always hated when people did that. I consume a minimal amount of media, and it’s an automatic invitation for me to wander off and entertain myself.

Yea my references are kinda off the wall so of course other people don't know them. I try to tailor my references to my audience

I made a reference to Rain Man at work last year and one of the 20 year olds that I supervise had no idea what I was talking about 🫠

Been sending this one today to my Minnesota friends-

Why does Ant (Timberwolves player) go to Denver?

Edit: don’t know how to put up a gif.

I've been to the restaurant where they filmed the "and then" scene many times and every time I hope they'll say it. they never do

I was talking to a friend of mine, don't even remember how it came up as a reaction but i was like COMINEYYYYYYEEEEHHAAAAAA, which you may remember from Saving Silverman.

You ever had to explain the plot of Saving Silverman to someone who did not go through that period of absolutely off-the-wall early 2000s movies? It's just like "look just BEAR WITH ME, so they kidnap the fiance - HANG ON - and Neil Diamond - okay you don't know who he is either, ANYWAY - " xD

u/Depressed_christian1 avatar

Yes!!! I just texted the “you’ve got some splaining’ to do” from I love Lucy to a 21 yr old family member and they had no idea! I literally was like, you never heard of I Love Lucy? They were like… sounds vaguely familiar….👀😳😳😬😬

u/Savingskitty avatar

Haha, I never even got around to seeing that movie, but it’s completely part of the cultural zeitgeist.

These references are what we had instead of internet memes.

u/Lay_On_The_Lawn avatar

I'm sure I've written out the entire Big Lebowski script one text at a time over the years.

Shibby

I often do. Sometimes I feel if the opportunity comes up and I am not on the quotation, I'll regret it. Maybe not today. Maybe not tomorrow, but soon and for the rest of my life.

All. The. Time. And if they don't get my references then we can't be friends.

One of my pet peeves is when someone quotes some movie I don’t know, and they try to persuade me into knowing it.

“It’s like [insert movie quote here],” they say before waiting with an expectant grin.

“…” I reply

“Oh come on, you know what that’s from, don’t you?”

“…” (thinking to myself, if this is from something fucking stupid like Big Lebowski or Fight Club, you can’t be me friend anymore)

I DONT CARE about your dumb ass movie quote if I don’t understand it right away, man, let it go

u/turrican4 avatar

sounds like someone's got a case of the mondays
