Ethan Suplee Brings Early Morning Positivity To The Philly Airwaves
Actor and American Glutton Podcast host, Ethan Suplee, joins The Preston & Steve Show ahead of his appearance this weekend at the Philly Fan Expo.
The Preston & Steve Show has always been big fans of Ethan Suplee. He has a scene stealing energy that has made the greatest actors step aside for a moment (looking at you, Denzel).
But only a few moments into a conversation, you realize that his proudest work has happened offscreen. Ethan has been on a two decade long health journey and he wants everyone to know about it, for somewhat selfish reasons.
Between his American Glutton podcast and constant gym posts on Instagram, you might just get the idea that he likes talking about his physical transformation. To Suplee, this isn’t mere content, but accountability.
Talking about his 200 pound weight loss is cathartic and holds him accountable for the daily struggle of maintaining his goals. He is the first to admit that walking into the gym is the hardest part of going to the gym. It’s that honesty in his messaging that encourages people every day.
Ethan Suplee is bringing his good vibes and star power to the Fan Expo at the Philadelphia Convention Center this weekend. Among the spectacle of stars singing autographs and spending quality hours posting for photos, you may just run into Suplee. He will happily chat about Mallrats, “Boy Meets World”, Wolf of Wall Street, American History X, Chasing Amy, Remember the Titans, and “My Name is Earl”. Or talk your ear off about his weight loss. Dealers’ choice.
At his heaviest of over 500 pounds, doctors gave Suplee a grave prognosis of complete and total organ failure, with no possibility of a course correction. But Suplee did course correct, and he has not looked back ever since. It all starts with diet.
Suplee believes the human body has a natural limit to what it should consume, and your body will tell you when to stop. It doesn’t matter how healthily you eat if you’re constantly over-eating. This is why Suplee sets limits on himself: pick out what you’re going to eat beforehand, and that’s that: no snacking, no seconds, and no eating just because you’re down. Like many things, this gets easier over time.
Diet is one thing, but how about getting jacked? Or in Suplee’s case, how about getting J-A-C-K-E-D, JACKED?
Suplee has made a commitment to working out once a day, every day. While the physical benefits may be great, Suplee likes fitness for the mental benefits. It’s almost the inverse of how he would feel pre-sobriety: he desperately doesn’t want to go to the gym, despite knowing how great he’ll feel afterwards. But once he’s there, it’s easy.
But here’s the thing: Suplee isn’t just a fitness icon. He’s also got an extensive Hollywood career that we looked back on!
“It gets to the point where you want to do a Biden on him and just sniff the guy.”
Suplee isn’t going around smelling random people on the street (that we know of). This is him gushing over the professionalism and vision of the great Martin Scorsese. Suplee gushing over his co-workers was a common occurrence over the course of our interview. He took some time to talk about being in awe of the magnitude of Denzel Washington, and how much he loves working with Kevin Smith.
The gang spent extensive time talking with Suplee about all of his projects. Suplee discussed the improbability of a “My Name is Earl” revival, unexpectedly enjoying being in a Hulu series, and the value of American History X. Watch our interview below with Suplee, where he talks all that, as well as his hippie parents, beards, and being born in a hospital a couple blocks down from Steve!
