      Critics Consensus

Derivative yet still intriguing, Loch Ness delivers an uneven first season that suffers in comparison to superior series while hinting at greater potential.

Rachel Cooke New Statesman What to say about The Loch? Think of it as Wee Broadchurch. Jun 21, 2017 Full Review Hank Stuever Washington Post You'll probably figure out the ending to "Loch Ness" well before the fog lifts, but my hunch is you're here mainly for the luscious scenery. Rated: B- Jun 19, 2017 Full Review Neil Genzlinger New York Times The peel-the-onion format here is familiar by now, but Stephen Brady's script and a group of fine performances keep it intriguing, nonetheless. A fine diversion for summer evenings. Jun 19, 2017 Full Review Pattie Pegler Stuff.co.nz It does a good job of slowly building up a portrait of a troubled but brilliant man with little regard for authority but great regard for the law itself. Definitely worth a look. Oct 26, 2017 Full Review Christopher Stevens Daily Mail (UK) This disjointed head-scratcher of a crime serial piled so many ludicrous events into its first hour that by the end I couldn't help laughing in disbelief. Rated: 2/5 Jun 19, 2017 Full Review Eleanor Bley Griffiths Radio Times ITV has promised that the loch will become a "character in its own right," which is probably a good thing because it surely has more depth than any of the other characters in this show (pun intended). Ted B 4.0 stars; No. This isn't a series about some monster crawling out of the water and killing people. The first of the episodes introduced the hoax acceptance of the 'Nessie Myth' by the townsfolk. But the plot was very dark. People were being murdered, but by a human monster. This was a neat small town murder mystery filmed in the most gorgeous scenery Scotland has to offer. The plot was clever and kept me engaged throughout. There were so many twists and turns that you couldn't help but stay involved. My biggest disappointment in this series was that it is for only one season. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/27/24 Full Review Keith T A perfectly good countryside crime drama marred by a dreadful, miserable interloping London character. I can't stand Quigley for a second and the only reason I would want to finish the show would be to see her comeuppance, but I'm not willing to wait. Throw in some more than necessary teen soap drama, along with a lot of people making mind-numbingly stupid decisions, and you've got just a badly made show that took a decent model and made it trash. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/01/24 Full Review Audience Member The over-convoluted plot is a real stretch. Fraser is excellent, as always. Worth a watch, but just above average. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Peter T Too many inaccuracies to make it enjoyable. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 11/02/22 Full Review robb w A little slow, but a good series. Definitely worth watching Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review fuck y I really liked it. Disappointed no more seasons.
