Obituary
Alice Maureen (Bush-Turay) Baruwa, the daughter of the late Mary Virginia (Curtis) Bush & the late Arthur E. Bush, Jr. was born March 25, 1965, in St. Mary’s County (Leonardtown), Maryland.
Alice received her education in the St. Mary’s County school system and graduated in 1984 from Chopticon High School.
Alice from previous relationships mothered two children, a daughter, Shantel Monique Bright & son, Kandeh Abdul Turay, Jr. She was joined in Matrimony on July 24, 1999 to the love of her life, Larry A. Baruwa.
Alice worked in the Federal Government for 32yrs. During her federal career she worked for various agencies such as Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA), & Naval Surface Warfare Center. She was awarded the Contracting Officer of the Year in 2016 from DISA, in adjacent to getting GS-14 as an Administrative Contracting Officer Representative.
She had a love for organizing family events. Gambling at the Casino, playing a good game of cards and bingo. She was great being an advisor & confidant. Family was very important to her, her motto was “Family First!”
Alice was a member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church located in Washington, DC.
In addition to her parents, Alice is preceded in death by her sisters, Betty Marie Bush & Julia Lucille Bush-Farris; brothers-in-law: Marc A. Farris and Roger E. Robinson, Jr. (JR) and a host of other relatives.
She leaves to cherish special memories: her Husband, Larry Baruwa; Daughter, Shantel Bright; Son, Kandeh Turay, Jr. (KT); Grandchildren: Altovese Turay (Allie), Kaidyn Turay (Kat), Godparents, Odessa Curtis and James R. Curtis, Jr.; Godchildren: Tyrina Anderson, Russell Hedgepeth, Shaquita Hebb, Jaleigh Lassiter; Sisters: Annette Hebb (Quintin) and Flora Bush-Gantt; Brother, Tony Bush, Sr.; Mother-in-law, Deborah Robinson; Father-in-Law, Lateef L. Baruwa (Joyce); Brothers-in-law: Michael Baruwa and OluRotemi Baruwa; Sisters-in-law: Felicia Armstrong, Kimberly Odoms, Kanita Odoms, LaResa Johnson (Jesse), Olabisi Castro (Miguel) and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Suddenly on Monday, March 19, 2018, at Medstar Washington Hospital Center, Washington, D.C., Alice Maureen (Bush) Baruwa of Fort Washington, Maryland transitioned to eternal life.Viewing, 9:00 a.m. until Mass of Christian Burial 11:00 a.m., Friday, April 6, 2018 at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 4275 Fourth Street, S.E., Washington, D.C. 20032.
