I've produced an FM Radio program for the past five years on CFUZ 92.9 in Penticton. It's a fully non-profit / volunteer-run radio station, which features both an online / simulcast as well as a classic terrestrial, antenna-based FM broadcast.

Most of my programs over the past few years have been artist overviews, and this week's artist is Leon Russell.

My program is called The Underground Review, it airs at 9pm each Friday night, with a repeat airing every Tuesday at 11pm. One of the neat things about doing shows like this is that I learn a lot about the musician of the week.

I knew the name Leon Russell over the years, but I never sat down and listened to any of his work: what a cornucopia of music the man brought us: 31 albums and 430 songs. His track "A Song for You" was named to the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2018 and has been recorded by more than 200 artists (!).

His Wiki page is a jaw-dropper; have a read through while listening to "Stranger in A Strange Land":

Do you still have the annual fundraiser where folks donate Audio gear? Great radio.

Hi,

I've been a life long Leon Russell fan. 'Stranger in a Strange Land' is a favourite. Carney is a sensational album. His piano playing is land mark stuff. But a crazy kind of guy.

Cheers,
David Neice

His contributions on Joe Cocker's Mad Dogs and Englishmen. (Great movie by the way)
