From starring in Oscar-winning films (Whiplash) to action-packed blockbusters (Fantasic Four, Divergent) to romantic comedies (That Awkward Moment), actor Miles Teller is used to being in the spotlight. And with the eventual release of Top Gun: Maverick on the horizon, that won't change anytime soon.

Despite his fame, Teller has been relatively private about his relationship with wife, model Keleigh Sperry. The couple started dating in 2013, and Teller—the January/February 2021 Men's Health cover star—says Sperry has provided a sense of calm in his fast-paced life. That includes keeping him grounded during the coronavirus pandemic, which saw the delay of Top Gun.

“We have a lot of friends whose relationships got put under a magnifying glass during these times," he tells Men's Health. "But we are really great.”

Here's what to know about Teller and Sperry's relationship, which includes a reality show-worthy proposal.

Teller can thank the Black Keys for introducing him to his wife.

Back in 2013, the Spectacular Now actor met Sperry at an after-party for the Grammy-winning band Black Keys. Though Teller wasn’t completely sure if he won over the heart of the model, he eventually got her to go on one date with him just a week later.

“Keleigh caught my eye early in the night, and we talked,” he told Vogue back in 2019 of how he met his wife. “I didn’t think it went well, but after a few more attempts, I got her to dance with me… After we met, I knew she was the one.”

Sperry, on the other hand, definitely didn’t think Teller messed up on introducing himself to her. “He was so charming and charismatic,” she told Vogue in the same interview as her husband. “I adored him from the first moment we met.”

Four years later, Teller proposed to Sperry while on a romantic getaway.

While the couple was on a romantic safari getaway in South Africa in 2017, the model noticed a strategically-placed rose on a tree, with a note attached to it. When she opened the piece of paper, it had their initials and two dates written on it: the day they started dating and the current one. After the Only the Brave star dropped on one knee and popped the question, Sperry immediately said yes.

“I said [to Sperry], ‘That was the first day I asked you to be my girlfriend, and today is the last day,’” he told Men’s Health about the epic proposal. “I found my person. I feel really lucky.”

While the proposal story is one worthy of being on The Bachelorette, it couldn't be a perfect engagement without some hitches along the way. As he told Men's Health, Sperry didn't realize what she was looking at when she first saw the rose on the tree. “She thought at first it was a marker where someone got killed or something,” says Teller. “Then she read the note.”

Despite the little glitches, Sperry couldn't have been happier with the way things turned out. "I'll never get the image out of my head of him down on one knee with a tear in his eye," she told People at the time. "He really thought about every detail."

The couple tied the knot on September 1, 2019 with a laidback ceremony in Maui, complete with a sunset reception and DJ Kygo spinning tunes at the wedding after-party.

The couple have supported each other through the pandemic.

Sperry and Teller are usually on-the-go with demanding photo shoots and film schedules, but when the pandemic hit back in March, the couple chose to embrace their newly-found free time and just enjoy being newlyweds. Among the things they're doing? Cooking lots of steak and pasta, doing home improvement projects, and spending quality time together.

"I'm with [Sperry] now from when I wake up to the moment I go to bed," he told Men's Health about his love for his current life. "Once you get married and make that ultimate commitment, life is just a lot less stressful. You just know that person is always going to be there."
