Faouzia – Tears of Gold Lyrics | Genius Lyrics

Tears of Gold Lyrics

[Verse 2]
Know that this is my fault
Gave a little too much
Knew that this was gonna happen
But I'm not gonna lie

You can make me cry, thousand times
I come running back like
What is going on with my head?

[Pre-Chorus]
Wrecked? Check
Heart? In debt
All you do is come around
Just came here to collect
Wrecked? Check
Heart? In debt

[Chorus]
Don't you know that
I cried tears of gold for you
I sit here poor for you
Collect my pennies and my dimes
That's why you love it when I cry
Platinum love for you
I'd give no less for you
Generosity's my enemy
So I'm broke and your heart's rich
Because of me
[Bridge]
And the worst part is I'd do it all over again
The worst part is, I know it's never gonna end

I keep coming right back like a maniac
I keep coming right back like

And the worst part is I'd do it all over again
The worst part is, I know it's never gonna end
I keep coming right back like a maniac

[Chorus]
I cried tears of gold for you
I sit here poor for you
Collect my pennies and my dimes
That's why you love it when I cry
Platinum love for you
I'd give no less for you
Generosity's my enemy
So I'm broke and your heart's rich
Because of me

I remember this day so clearly. The day that I wrote the song I had been in sessions all summer every day. And I remember just being like, nothing that I’m writing is really clicking with me or connecting with me. I need to just have like one day off. And then I went home, took the day off and the next day I walked in the studio with Jay Mike. And honestly, it’s like we refueled completely. And I don’t usually write from personal experience. Usually I write about other people’s experiences or just things that people can relate to. But I was like something in me. I was like, I’m going to write about something that I can truly connect with and I know that people can connect with too. And so I wrote “Tears Of Gold.” I am way too nice sometimes. I’ve been in so many tough situations just because I’ve given too much to people and I know that they don’t really connect with me, or like friendships where it’s just like one sided. That’s why it’s just like, why do I keep doing this and why do I keep putting myself in this situation? It’s still like that honestly. And I feel like that’s what the song is. You’re just pouring your soul out to someone and it’s really like nothing in return.

I remember I was humming to myself. And then Jay Mike was like, you’ll send me that, send me that voice recording. And then I sent it to him and he started playing chords and he kind of altered the voice to sound really warped and then all at once I just started “Tears of gold, don’t you know that I cried tears of gold.” I wrote the chorus all at once and it really just clicked in that moment. When I finished writing “Tears Of Gold,” I was like, I love this song so much and I was so anxious for people to hear it and I knew just like the process of how songs work with getting production done, getting the video done, It takes so long. I was like, I want people to hear it right now and I want to know what people think. And so I put it online and I got such a beautiful response from everybody and it made me so excited and made me want to work even harder on making it so perfect. Lots of people still like the work in progress version and I totally get it. They’re two different types of songs and one is more just like I cried tears of gold for you and one of those like I grabbed tears of gold for you. So it depends on what headspace you’re in and what you want to listen to.
