BACK TO BACK! Women's Lacrosse Leads Wire-to-Wire in Landmark Title Game Victory Over Catholic

SCRANTON, Pa. – The top-seeded University of Scranton women's lacrosse team (16-3) led wire-to-wire and captured a second straight Landmark Conference title with a 12-5 victory over the No. 2 seed Catholic University Cardinals (12-7) in the Landmark Championship game on Saturday at Weiss Field in Scranton.

The Royals are headed to the NCAA Tournament for a second straight year and the fourth time in program history. The full NCAA field will be unveiled in a live selection show on Monday morning at 10:30 a.m.

Junior attacker Grace Lane (Long Beach, N.Y./Sacred Heart Academy) earned Tournament MVP honors after posting seven goals, four assists, three ground balls and four caused turnovers in two postseason games.

Freshman Jillian Lopez (Sayville, N.Y./St. Anthony's) opened the scoring just 1:54 into the game and added a second later in the quarter to go along with a tally from fellow freshman Eileen Hewitt (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown East) that made it a 3-0 game after one. Lane assisted on all three goals in the quarter. Catholic was able to get on the board early in the second period, but senior Devyn Tanajewski (Ringwood, N.J./Lakeland Regional) answered less than two minutes later for the Royals who scored five of the next six goals. Lopez found the back of the net with 0:29 remaining before halftime and extended the advantage to 8-2.

Tanajewski added a goal in the third quarter and Scranton led 9-3 headed to the fourth. In the fourth quarter, the trio of Lane and seniors Erin Reich (Rockville Centre, N.Y./South Side) and Kayleigh Stalter (Lynbrook, N.Y./Lynbrook) scored in a span of 2:28 as the Royals put the game out of reach and preserved a second straight Landmark crown.

Four different Royals tallied multi-goal games as Lopez led the way with three and Lane, Reich and Tanajewski all added two apiece.

Lane registered four assists in the victory and became the seventh player in program history to reach the 200 career point milestone.

Hewitt added a goal, two assists, four draw controls, five ground balls and two caused turnovers on the day, while senior Nicolina Mauro (South Hempstead, N.Y./South Side) had four ground balls and three caused turnovers.

Junior goalie Lauren Boldis (Merrick, N.Y./Sanford H. Calhoun) made six saves in the victory.
