About
The name “The Monk’s Cellar” itself is a nod to the brewing traditions of Belgium, a country known for its vibrant beer culture. From his trips to Europe, our founder Andy Klein was inspired to create a place in Placer County where people could meet in a casual, safe environment; where good food and great beer are just part of everyday life. Like the celebrated beer destinations of Belgium, The Monk’s Cellar is not a place where beer is dissected and endlessly analyzed, but enjoyed one sip at a time. At The Monk’s Cellar our goal is to create a culture where our beer is shared as easily as the conversations, ideas and aspirations of the community. To realize this you’ll not only see our team on your visits to the brewery, but at regional events where we donate our time, beer and resources to build a better, safer, cleaner place we all call home.

We had a shockingly bad experience at Monk's this evening. My date and I and another couple were meeting for dinner at 6:30p which turned out to be "Trivia Night"--to our surprise. Our friends got there 5-10 minutes earlier and sat down at a table outside (in front). Our friends (who dine out frequently and honestly are very nice people) said that the women who was taking reservations was rude when they asked how long the wait would be and they were admonished for sitting at one of those tables even though they stated that they were waiting for friends. When we joined them, the tall, bearded guy with a hat (who claims he was a manager there for 8 years) objected to us sitting at two of the small, square tables pushed together, expecting all four of us to drink AND dine at one of the tables--a cramped situation. I made it clear that we were having dinner--not just drinking. When I pointed out the other couples sitting at the same tables (2 persons per table), he would not relinquish nor acknowledge the absurdity of us being cramped at one small table. I've been there a dozen times and never had a bad experience, but this guy was arrogant and heavy-handed...in so many words saying he didn't care if we went elsewhere. We did go elsewhere--Bar 101 in Old Town where the service and tacos were great. We probably would have gone to "The Place" across the street, but they were closed. I used to recommend Monk's and the P.E.I Mussels on weekends, but NO MORE. If this clown who says he is a manager is REALLY a manager, he should not be dealing with customers--he has no PR skills. Historically, the service was friendly at this establishment, but it seems that now it's OK to treat customers like cattle. Monks never again.

Went there for the mussels and were disappointed as they had sold out. Call first as they are served on weekend. The food was very good for a pub and so was the beer. The service was very good and the prices reasonable.

First time trying this place, and while it wasn’t perfect, we did enjoy it and will go back. We had a cellar burger and Reuben sandwich, both with fries. We split the sandwiches. The Reuben had a nice flavor, but not much moisture to it, pretty dry, as were also the fries, which tasted reheated, though the waiter said they were not. (Too bad, I’d been looking forward to those). To be fair, it was about 15 minutes before closing when we were seated, and we were welcomed and never made to feel rushed, which was greatly appreciated. That’s one reason to go back, and the other was the burger! Absolutely delicious! Dripping juicy, very flavorful, very good burger. Service was quick and courteous, and the waiter took a couple dollars off our bill for the dry fries. Will give them another try, maybe a bit earlier in the evening, and next time we’ll both get burgers. Outside dining due to COVID was fine as the weather was pleasant. A rare day in The 80’s for Roseville, maybe not so great sitting outside in our usual summer weather!

Dinner and brews with family here on a visit to Roseville. Ample beer menu, though I selected the Blasphemy Hard Seltzer, refreshing and crisp. Dinner entrees included the Reuben, on which I substituted a Beyond Burger patty, very enjoyable. Also at our table, veggie burger, fish and chips, snd sausage plates. Everyone enjoyed everything. Service was superb. Very enjoyable and recommended.

One of the best burgers in Roseville! The bun is soft and the burger is cooked perfectly! I had a side salad with chicken which was average , but side salads with chicken usually aren’t that exciting! The beer is great! Always a good choice for a burger !

After reading all the reviews I thought that we should stop by and see for ourselves. They had the Brunch menu not the daily menu. Had a special going on so we had limited choices. The food was good not great. The beer was good. Would come back for the beer but not the food.

I was recommended this place by a friend and it didn’t disappoint. This is a microbrewery restaurant with both indoor and outdoor seating, they also offer beer appreciation/tastings for the novice. I tried the beer battered Cod with home made fries cooked in duck fat, excellent. The 2 beers I tried were an American IPA and something a little different in the way of a sour beer called The Wise Lady, it was Belgian style but Barrel aged in wine lees to give it a red colour and a touch of sourness, the balance in my opinion was just right. The staff were excellent and the owner Paul was on hand to support during the lunchtime rush.

We joined friends here for Trivia Night recently and had a blast. When we arrived, we were happily greeted and shown to our reserved table for pre-festivities drinks and food. This is a popular event and the place quickly filled up with a fun crowd of revelers. Our server, Robin, was amazing. Amidst all the madcap tomfoolery and ado, she took and delivered our orders in an incredible show of experienced efficiency. The beers were good, water promptly refilled and excellent food in a friendly atmosphere. We we had a great time. Highly recommended.

Beer - good. Food - decent . . . with the French fries stealing the show. Service - kind, polite, but not the most attentive. We had a nice late afternoon, Friday summer lunch with our daughter and my wife’s brother and his wife. The place was . . . well, almost empty - sans the tables in the front. And, we still had to wait, as the restaurant only had a skeleton crew on service. We were seated at a table that made it challenging for all of us to sit in conversation. And, I guess I should have asked to be reseated - so I take the ownership. The server was really kind and polite - but the service was off and delayed. The French fries arrived 10 minutes after the main course. The beer was brought out at the end of the meal. The reality - it was a late lunch seating and the staff were in transition to an evening service. So, with all that stated my take away . . . Worth the visit, but make every effort to time your meal to be more aligned with the general service of the restaurant.

Ok, the food is really good, but you need to allow time. It wasn't crowded at lunch and it took over 35 minutes to receive our food and about 10 minutes to get our beverages. The sandwich that I had was well prepared and tasted very good. They have really good duck-fat french fries - yum!. Portions are a bit on the small side, but still filling. I was disappointed that they were out of sauerkraut and I didn't get to try their version of a Reuben. Maybe next trip to Roseville.

This is a must do when in Roseville. The beers cannot be beat. The food selections are tasty for a brewery. Recommend the Shepherds Pie, duck fat fries, and the Pretzel knots with pub cheese. Simply the best.

Went for lunch expecting it to be quiet as Downtown Roseville on a Saturday usually is. Boy were we wrong! Good all round menu salads, burgers, fish, steaks and a good selection of beer, wine and cocktails. We both had the fish and chips and these are the best locally we have ever had - we could have been in England! Server was excellent and we didn't have too long to wait for food or drinks. Will definitely return.
