I love the uniforms, the decor, the menu, however, the food was not to my liking and I waited for 1hour 15min and still there was only a tiny soup delivered to one of us. I had to finally just ask them to pack it...all up. I have no idea what took so long. The food was terribly oily, tiny, a tiny sliver of bread, bland, too many cheap versions of staples like plantain and rice, but not even a full spoon full of sauce for dipping. There was 1 small portion of a kind of cheese that was good, but it was not even a full spoonful so I hardly remember. The rest we threw out. And all of this disappointment came to nearly 40euro. What a huge waste of time and money. Then when we tried to pay they said they only take German credit cards or cash so we had to run around the corner to find a machine.More

Waitress really disappointing. My mom showed on the menu what she want, and we receive our starters and ask for hers. They ordered something totally different and only a plat. We were ok, error could happen. Then she received her 2 starter and her meal...in the same time…. Then we had to ask for water 3 times before it comes. Then we asked for our dessert include in our menu, we ordered, and they bring the dessert included in the menu and one per person additional because they thought we ordered twice….. Technically the food was good, cocktails and wine as well but the waitress are just badMore

From the outside, the place looks really select and on can't look inside. Once you enter, it really feels like you traveled to a place in Africa. The decor and lights really set the tone. Also, the menu is impressive. Not just what's in it,...but the style and make. Definitely unique. I got myself an exotic, grilled meat platter with a fruit beer. The beer wasn't served in a glass, so I'll let you experience that yourself. Along with the entree, it was also the fastest thing to arrive. And thus, the long wait began. It took them a good 30 minutes after the entree to serve the main dishes we had ordered. My family enjoyed their choices and were stuffed afterwards. I wasn't too impressed by the grilled meat platter. My expectation was to be able to taste the differences between the exotic meats (crocodile, ostrich and zebra), but unfortunately the meat was dry, a little chewy and tasted mostly of grill. The sauce was really good though and so was the spicy sauce that was added upon request. Dessert was exquisite. All I remember is being really satisfied as it made up for the lackluster grill platter. You definitely pay for the experience as it isn't cheap.More

A friend chose this place but had not told anyone what it was about. It is well decorated and very cozy. Table wear also uses typical themes. Everything was amazing, from the appetizers, welcome drink, going through different meat experiences. We got a selection of...zebra, camel and antelope. Not sure if I would taste it knowing in advance, but it was better like that. My favorite one was zebra, extremely tasty and tender. I definitely recommend this place and its experience.More

The ambiance of this restaurant set in Prenzlauer Berg is quite nice, but the food itself definitely doesn't live up to the expectations. If you have had good African food elsewhere, you are very likely to be disappointed. Coupled with the high prices this place...charges, I definitely do not recommend coming here. There are plenty of other African restaurants in Berlin where you get better food at more affordable price. On the other hand if you never tried African food, this one is tuned to European tastes, so you might like it if you are the kind of person who does not enjoy different tastes from around the world.More

I found this restaurant advertised in an underground station in Berlin city centre and thought I'd give it a try. Tucked away in a quiet back street not from Eberswalder Strasse tube station (7 minute walk), the exterior is inviting. From arrival to departure it...was a great experience with good quality food, drink and service. It was great to try zebra, springbock and ostrich and the food presentation on their own designed crockery was 1st class. I arrived at 18.30 and by 19.00 it was almost full so seems very popular and for good reason. I will go againMore

We went to Massai on a Wednesday night at 8:00pm and the 3 of us were seated right away. They had lots of great drinks, including delicious mango beer and cool cocktails. Unique soup, which was tasty even though I'm not much of a soup...person. We got to sample complimentary falafels from the kitchen which were delish! Shared the Serengeti and combo meat plate where we got to try chicken, lamb, zebra, crocodile and antelope! The Serengeti platter was a little over-peppered but overall everything was tasty! Service was awesome! They switched my beer, even though it was my friend who ordered it wrong, they moved us to a bigger table, they accommodated our request for sweet plantains and were overall attentive and efficient. The decor is also quite beautiful, but a giraffe statue or two away from being touristy and tacky. The "Africa" theme is not hard to miss.More

This time I wanted to have some African food with my mother, so we came across the Massai restaurant, not far from the underground station Eberswalder Straße. The restaurant is traditionally decorated and creates a cozy atmosphere. The owner, like the entire service, received us...very friendly. So we ordered the Mama Africa menu: The first course included millet soup with vegetables cooked in coconut milk, rounded off with cinnamon and anise. The soup was tasty and the consistency was fantastic. Then we received the side dish of chickpea balls (falafel) on a spicy-exotic coconut sauce, with fried plantains with a fruity passion fruit sauce and sesame balls filled with date paste and Kenyan tomato and bean salad with honeydew melon. All the dishes were very delicate, especially the sesame balls bringing a special note. Then the main course, lamb and okra and eggplant Potjie with zucchini and bell pepper in Tamarinda sauce and guanaco skewer (camel meat). The okra pods were not overcooked and bite-proof, a sign that a qualified cook was at work here, the camel meat skewers were very spicy. The portions are relatively small, but the taste leaves nothing to be desired. Definitely recommendable!More

Cool place with fascinating interiors, nice English speaking stuff and rich menu which varies from vegetation options to the crocodile meat. We had vegetarian 3 course meal for 21 euro. The portions were perfect size and taste very good. The menu had there different starters...and three different main courses as well as soup. The serving was fantastic as well.More

I am no expert of African tastes nor have I visited the continent, but Massai offered a teaser to what I assumed Africa could offer. A selection of exotic meats for the daring, of which we recommend crocodile, but of course there's something for the...vegetarians! Cocktails were great. Planning another visit to expand the experience - and hopefully one day visit Africa itself.More

I was in Berlin for a visit and as I haven’t been to my home country in 2 years, my wife thought it a good idea to try an African restaurant. I was impressed in entirety, from the music, to the ambience, to the food,...beer and wine, I felt like I was in a restaurant back home. Very friendly service personnel. I am definitely coming back here next time we’re in Berlin.More

Nice and cosy place with a lot of African atmosphere. The food is very good and authentic African. Though not the best African food I ever had. I think the place is a bit pricy (there appear to be a lot of people working there,...maybe they all need to be paid!). I gave it 5 stars nevertheless, though I should have give 4.5 for the reasons mentioned.More

it is very difficult to bring African food under one kitchen and then present it to one of the metropolitan cities of the world. One has to give credit to the Massai restaurant in Berlin for breaking the barriers by competing with other famous international...chefs...the food, the presentation, the interior design, the waiters uniform, the music and not to forget the warm African smile ..this is a place to be and it is a place not to miss when you visit Berlin..More

I found this restaurant "by accident". The style on entrance looks nice and both (my friend and I) were hungry and we just said give it a try. And we made a really good decision. Restaurant has really nice intimacy atmosphere. A bit dark, but...it was not disturbing. Great for couples, business lunch/dinner and groups with manners. Service was great and the food - DELICIOUS!More

No Berlin neighbourhood has undergone a greater change
than Prenzlauer Berg. The artists and non-conformists
that defined the district’s intriguing subculture in

crowd that frequents the many cafes. Where there were
once run-down houses in the shadow of the Berlin Wall,
there are now designer shops. Beautiful old homes have
