After the big storm in NY and the Hudson Valley, the water was flowing fast enough to cover the rocks below from view. Amazing!

Great place to unwind.
There are areas for picnic and friendly hiking trails that are worth healthy climb.

While in Croton visiting a friend for a week, somehow we kept getting delayed in seeing the Dam, and now I'm sorry because experiencing it once was not enough! I'm not easily wowed by such a natural setting, but the New Croton Dam is almost breathtaking. We walked over the pedestrian bridge at the top, and it was a lovely weekday, so there weren't a lot of people and we could linger as long as we wanted. I didn't expect its simple majesty to affect me as it did. This was the best surprise of the whole week in Westchester County! And free for all to enjoy!

I lived in Croton for many years and took my dog to the Dam daily. The beauty of the park and trails and the magnificence of the Falls ALWAYS got me.

This is absolutely magnificent and a must see! Very impressive, since construction began in 1892 and was completed in 1906 to supply New York City with water. We hiked the trail up to the top of the aqueduct on a beautiful, but warm day, and I encourage anyone who can, to do so. The views are spectacular overlooking the dam, waterfalls, and the reservoir. The area is part of the Croton Gorge Park so picnic and bring the kids. The day was so beautiful that it was very crowded so going early might be a better option. Parking fee in season, but free after Labor Day.

Breathtaking scenic water views with interesting history of this overwhelmingly impressive dam.
Completed in 1907 - over 200 feet high- masonary wonder with a reservoir capacity of 34 billion gallons of water.
A must see.
Local parking and playground and trails.
Listen to the peaceful sounds of the waterfalls.
Must take the walk over the bridge for the most scenic views to behold.
Just off Route 129.

An amazing day trip. It’s absolutely beautiful. This time of year with leaves changing colors it was just spectacular. Make sure to bring your best camera and wear comfortable shoes. Lots of walking trails, picnic areas, plenty of space for kids to run around. We went early so it wasn’t as crowded but when we left around lunch time it was a bit too busy.

We have used the Aqueduct as a walkway for years. It starts at the New Croton Dam, which is a spectacle in itself and winds its way 41 miles to the NYC border. We walk the section from the Dam to the GE Training Facility in Ossining, which is about 5 miles each way.
The pathway is wide and very open, with trees, stone walls and people's backyards for viewing. We love it.

If you mean off-leash as being dog friendly, the answer is no. Leashed dogs are welcome. Please take any dog leavings with you when you leave.

It's beautiful! Especially if you drive up the Taconic parkway
If I like to fish there, the New York State license is good or do I need something else!

.Access is provided by the New York City DEP. A free NYC DEP watershed access permit is required. Google New York City Reservoir Regulations for information.

William, how long the walk to the top of the Dam from the base or any vehicle can access halfway
Cindy L
Hudson, MA35 contribuciones
Not a long walk. If no issues with walking it should take 10mins or so to get to the top. There is a park below, which you can park at or there in another access Rd. that you can park at the top of the dam and walk across.

Is it a walking distance from a station Croton Harmon or we should take taxi?

It's quite a walk from the nearest town which I believe its where the station is at...I suggest a cab or renting a car and make it a day trip with friends...the roads are very narrow walking along the road to the waterfalls...so be careful if you decide to walk..

Can we walk from a station Croton Harmon to that place? How long should it take?
Ingwall
Brooklyn, Estado de Nueva York10 contribuciones
You can, but it's about an hour walking on the streets of the town of Croton-on-Hudson, which is not too exciting, and the streets don't always have sidewalks. I would suggest taking a taxi from the station and then hiking back on the Old Croton Aqueduct trail.
