blackberry classic sim not detected
I was wondering if anyone here knows if this is fixable or not. I just got my blackberry classic from ebay and it is saying no sim detected.
Try cleaning the sim off and blowing the slot out.
I have actually tried that already with no luck unfortunately.
I'd try shimming the SIM card with a bit of paper, I know this is a common issue on LG G3s and that works but I have no idea about the BB Classic
I will try it but what exactly do you mean?
He means that when you put the sim card into the tray, put a tiny piece of folded paper on top of it(Not on the metal, on the top), hold it down, and then insert it into the tray. Not to thick, not to thin.
What he is wanting to see - You stated this device is refurbished? Let's say the previous owner, instead of using a tiny sim card - Simply took a bigger one and cut it down. This works, but can push the pins inside the sim slot down. Over time, with repeated use, what this can do is push them down and keep them there. So when you are now trying your smaller sim, it's not connecting to the pins. So in order to fix this, you need to add some "Thickness" to the sim tray.
For people using the Bold 9900 / Older devices, a lot of people had to do this - Including me. For my Passport, I need to put a piece of paper in on the back as the pins got pushed down, and the spring that holds the sim card down broke. So by adding thickness, it keeps it in the slot and connects it to the pins.
Additionally, you could try using a autoloader to reset the device.
If this does not work, your sim tray is most likely defective. Either replace it yourself (Youtube has tutorials, check CrackBerry, buy replacement parts off E-Bay), or buy a new classic off E-Bay for a good $50 bucks.
I understand now. I will give it a try and see if that may make it work. Ebay is actually where I got this one for around that price and they already said that they would exchange it for me.
What do you mean by an autoloader to reset it?
Autoloader. It's a more clean way of doing a factory reset via a external image on your computer - With your phone connected via USB.
The very last BlackBerry update was only pushed out for Canadian users, and has some Webkit updates (Krack Fix mostly). It most likely will not help you, but it never hurts to rule it out. Or just exchange it. But whatever Classic you buy next, you'll most likely want to run the autoloader.

The phone is defective and some devices have had defective Sim card readers. Return the device to the seller.
Thats what I was afraid of and I already issued a return on it. I was just hoping that there might be something that I could do that might fix it.
FWIW, I bought a Classic last year, put a sim card in, powered it up and it worked fine. I'm on Verizon. I'm rocking a KeyONE these days, but the Classic is a great phone. Wish I could be more help. Good luck.
Yeah I am really hoping that somebody knows how to fix it so that I can try it out for a while.
Good luck. Hope you can get it working. It's a great device.
