      Critics Consensus

The Bay doesn't break any new ground, but strong performances and a few surprises are likely to hook those looking for a new crime drama.

Sean O'Grady Independent (UK) Cliche-ridden and knackered before the end of the first episode of a six-hour story arc, The Bay really isn't good enough, not even for passing the time in lockdown. Jan 22, 2021 Full Review Louise Rugendyke Sydney Morning Herald That's the problem with The Bay, there's nothing new here. I felt like I had watched every scene before. Apr 29, 2019 Full Review Deborah Ross The Mail on Sunday (UK) There were further troubling tropes too -- as a single working mum, Lisa's own teenage children are naturally out of control...I will only say that by the end of the first episode I thought: this has to have been written by a man. And it was. Rated: 2/5 Mar 25, 2019 Full Review Joel Keller Decider It's setting itself up as a multilayered mystery with lots of twists and turns, but to go on the ride with the show, you have to buy what goes on in the series' first ten minutes. Oct 24, 2019 Full Review Kevin Lever Tell-Tale TV An intriguing series. Rated: 3.5/5 Oct 18, 2019 Full Review Ian Hyland Daily Mirror (UK) As tribute acts go The Bay is bubbling up rather nicely... Ron G I'm addicted to British mysteries and this series did not let me down. Great complex plot lines with characters (good &bad) that I really cared about. The only problem I had was that I couldn't complete each season in one binge sitting. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/18/23 Full Review Gareth P This detective series is one of the best shows on UK TV. It has a sort of Scandi-Noir feel to it. Have watched all 4 series now and I hope ITV commission another series. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/07/23 Full Review Lane M I think this show is great, excellent acting, enjoy watching it... Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/27/23 Full Review EPC1948 R Good stories but too much soap within the police families that distract from the main themes. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 03/23/23 Full Review richard t Solid. Nothing particularly original, but solid. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review klaus s Great writing, acting, pacing, and storyline. Definitely recommend. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Read all reviews
