There are a few of us left that enjoy leaving the comforts of our homes to enjoy the nostalgia of watching a movie outdoors on the big screen of a drive-in movie theater. Thankfully, there are a couple of them left in Connecticut, and one has just announced their classic lineup of blockbuster films for the upcoming Summer 2024 season.

2024 may seem like the end of days for movie theaters, but business is surprisingly good at the two remaining major drive-in movie theaters we have left in Connecticut. One is already up and running, Mansfield Drive-In, has recently opened up for it's 70th season. If you would like to see a current release, like The Fall Guy, Abigail, or Ghostbusters Frozen Empire, Mansfield Drive-in is it, the only drive-in left.

I've been keeping an eye on the Pleasant Valley Drive-In in Barkhamsted, as the new owners pledged to rebuild, renovate, and re-open in the future, but the last update on their social media is from December 2023. In it, several issues with the town's zoning and planning were laid out, and .... It's now May 1, 2024.

Southington Drive-in is gearing up for a big Summer 2024 Season, they've just released their schedule that starts on June 1 and runs until September 14. Most Saturday nights between those dates, a new classic film will start approximately 30 minutes after sunset. Here's the lineup: Jaws - June 1, Minions: The Rise of Gru - June 8, Paddington 2 - June 15, Trolls - June 22, Footloose - June 29. Finding Dory - July 6, Back to the Future - July 13, Elvis - July 20. Kung Fu Panda 4 - August 3, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - Mutant Mayhem - August 10, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone - August 17, DC League of Superpets - August 24, Grease - August 31. Wonka on September 7, and the season ends with The Sandlot on September 14.
