Someone was screaming. A horrific, guttural sound that infected the entire night with sorrow. He wondered if it was the ghosts of the people he'd just killed. He wondered if they'd come back to haunt him, to follow his every waking move, to never let him forget the way he'd demolished them into dust.
The sound pounded through his head, determined to push him to a breaking point. Collapsing to his knees, Chat Noir had to pause to draw in a deep breath.
It was only then that he realized the person screaming was him.

Still grieving the recent death of his mother and struggling to reacquaint himself with normal life, Adrien is thrown a curveball in the shape a of snarky cheese-obsessed kwami, who offers him a miraculous and insists he has the potential to be the next Chat Noir: a hero worthy of protecting Paris from Hawk Moth, and a partner worthy of standing by Ladybug's side.

Marinette knows Adrien's changed, and no matter how hard he tries to pretend to be okay, she can see right through him. She always has. As the new Guardian, she swears to Adrien to find his missing miraculous, and works to recover the two missing ones: butterfly and peacock.
Two new villains appear in Paris- Miss Farfalle and Monsieur Paon- and they wreak chaos across the city, determined to hurt and destroy the two superheroes. As Marinette tries to discover the identities of the new supervillains and learning to become Guardian, Adrien starts to distant himself with his new terrible secret.

Despite being cursed by Plagg' ring, Felix has accepted his role as Chat Noir over the last few years of fighting side by side with Ladybug - even if he has trouble accepting that he can't seem to win his partner's heart. He may not be happy with his life as a model for his father or that his mother disappeared when he was young or that he doesn't have any friends, but he has walled himself in so the world can't bother him anymore and he is satisfied with his lot.
