Ballard gives students amazing opportunities, they really value good programs and travel. Getting students more involved in sports was never a priority though.
I have loved attending Ballard. I have gone here my whole life and the people are overall great. There are some people that aren't but you'll have that everywhere. It is a small school with a great community aspect.
Ballard high school is overall very culturally diverse. The admissions make an effort to give students the best learning experience possible. To do so, we have counselors that are specified, two for freshman, then one for each "learning pathway". Our learning pathways were designed to help students feel more connected to the school. As a large school with over 2000 students it is easy to feel distant from teachers and not feel connected to your school. I feel as though these pathways have made it easier to connect to the school and you are placed in a group with like-minded peers throughout your high school career.
Some of the teachers are really inviting, but many of the teachers could prepare you more. The school food is not great with finding hairs in your food daily, or it is burnt, cold, or crusty. The culture of this school is not bad, and most of the students are very kind. (except for the ones that suck, which is too many.)
I loved all my teachers at Ballard! They made my experience at Ballard 100% worth it! I felt like I had support if I needed it!
Ballard is awesome! Located in Huxley, IA, it is a small school district with an estimated 500+ students. It is located between two large metro schools, Des Moines, IA (the state capital) and Ames, IA (Iowa State is located). Considered a small school but so big in so many ways with lots of heart. There I can be an athlete for multiple sports and know my teachers on an individual basis.
I have played football for ten years through the different programs and wrestling for the last ten years. I have had the opportunity to be on varsity teams lettering multiple years. During that time I have received awards and letters from my coaches and teachers giving me compliments on my accomplishments.
Ballard has so many other opportunities for students that don't want to participate in sports as Ballard is strong in many extracurricular activities. One of the best parts is they offer honor classes and the ability to take classes at the local community college DMACC. A great education!

My overall experience at this school has been overwhelmingly positive. As a BHS student, I have been afforded so many opportunities to further my education and pursue my passions. Both the academic and extracurricular options are very extensive. Students are heard at this school, and we have input in the things that affect us. In my time at Ballard, there has never been a moment where I wasn't proud to go here.
I have gone to Ballard my whole life. During these years, I have never had a bad experience with teachers, staff, and the community. I do believe that some things can be changed, like how some teachers teach, and I think that they should check on the teachers more often to make sure that the teachers are doing their job. Overall, there are many encouraging teachers who push you to your limits and very friendly leaders in the school.
The teachers are very nice and will help you in every way possible for you to learn and understand material. It was a safe environment and there was hardly any bullying throughout grades and people.
I loved the atmosphere in band and speech! However, sometimes certain teachers didn't cater to the specific needs of the individuals in their classes, making it difficult for their students to fully understand the subject. On the other hand, most of the teachers were amazing and you can tell they really love their jobs!
I like the teachers. I think the administration isn’t very friendly. The amount of communication with the students is minimal.
Ballard High School is a school that encourages career and college readiness. They strive to prepare students for all aspects of life, not just the academic areas. The teachers and administration truly care about their students and are more than willing to answer any questions or give advice.
Going to highschool I thought I knew everything that was going to come my way in college, I was very wrong. This high school is good at doing its just for the time being. I feel they did not prepare e for college and what was to come or how to properly study. I wish that is a skill I learned better in high school.
At least one openly anti-semetic teacher. special ed students are targeted for discipline issues that gen ed students are allowed to slide on.
I went to Ballard for all thirteen years of my education and I loved it. The school environment was very welcoming. The teachers are very caring and helped the students as much as possible.
While there are problems like with any highschool (likes students, teachers, food, etc.) I rated so highly because no matter who you are coming into it, there are always people who will accept you, and teachers who will always look out for you.
Very academically focused school, many great teachers, sports are fun, music programs are very inclusive
