Stirling Scotland

On our final full day in Glasgow we took another short train ride north east to the city of Stirling, home of Stirling Castle and the National Monument to William Wallace/Braveheart.

We toured Stirling castle, which was home to numerous Kings & Queens of Scotland. Queen Mary of the Scots was raised and taught here as a child.

It was also the key site where famous battles occurred between the Scots and Brits. The most famous one being the battle won by the Scots led by William Wallace

The Wallace Monument is across the valley from the castle. It is an immense and impressive monument to the Scots national hero. It reminded me of the towers in the Lord of the Rings, and may have inspired JRR Tolkien, who likely visited this tower during his lifetime.

We left Glasgow by train this morning, heading into the Scottish Highlands!
