Biography

After leaving Third Eye Blind and later referring to his former group as "the modern equivalent of the Partridge Family," bassist, songwriter and producer Jason Slater started assembling the his next project, Snake River Conspiracy. The concept to develop a band around a statuesque female vocalist that loosely fell under the Industrial Rock genre came to fruition when Slater met an exotic dancer named Tobey Torres at a Northern California strip club. Following the release of their debut single "Vulcan" and the EP Smells Like Teen Punk Meat in late 1999, the band was signed to Reprise Records and released their first album Sonic Jihad. Though met with better than average reviews and a substantial amount of hype, sales were lukewarm and led to the loss of their major label contract.

Snake River Conspiracy's loosely assembled structure and revolving door membership culminated in Torres quitting the band in 2004, just as they were heading out on the road in support of Queensrÿche. Slater quickly hired former Drain S.T.H. drummer Martina Axén as her replacement. After the tour, several demo tracks for their long awaited follow-up were recorded and made digitally available, but never officially released. In May 2006, Axen was fired and Torres returned to the band. About that same time, Slater, who had been doing various production projects, launched his Five Knuckle Bullet Records label.

Slater died in late 2020. Torres and former SRC guitarist Mitch Doran, who had been playing together in a newer group called Mojave Phone Booth, announced in July 2022 that they planned on continuing Snake River Conspiracy.
