4 Extra marks the centenary of the birth of John Mortimer (21st April 1923) with a series of his entertaining reconstructions of dramatic courtroom battles from the past.

Tom Baker stars as the formidable barrister, Sir Edward Marshall Hall.

In his first case, fought in 1894, he sets out to save Marie Herman from death on the gallows. Introduced by Rumpole of the Bailey's creator, John Mortimer himself.

Also on Friday at 20:30, John Mortimer shares some of his favourite tales of his life as a barrister and writer with an audience in That Reminds Me. From 2002.
