Note: All statuses are not used or supported by all airlines.

  • (a) = Status codes that may only be set by an airline, provided that the change is permitted in accordance with IATA resolution 20.60 or IATA resolution 722f as applicable.
  • (c) = Status codes that may be set by either a CRS or an airline.
    • Whenever a CRS changes the status to one marked with a (c), the status immediately prior to the change must be O (open for use).
    • Whenever an airline internally changes the status to one marked with a (c), the status immediately prior to the change may be any status, provided that the change is permitted in accordance with ATA resolution 20.60 or IATA resolution 722f as applicable.
  • (i) = Status code O that may be set by a CRS only at the time of ETKT issuance. It may be set internally by an airline at any time for any change from another status code to O, provided that the change is permitted in accordance with ATA resolution 20.60 or IATA resolution 722f as applicable.
  • (d) = U - Unavailable: Indicates Interim status (airport control, checked-in, irregular operations, lifted/boarded, refund taxes/fees/charges only, suspended, unavailable).
  • (e) = Y - Refund Taxes/Fees/Charges Only: Indicates the validating carrier has determined the coupon is no longer available for use as ticketed, applicable taxes/fees/charges may be refunded and considered as closed status.
  • (f) = Z - Closed: Indicates the Validating Carrier has determined the coupon is not available for use. This is a final status, no follow-up action is permitted.
  • (g) = A FIM (Flight Interruption Manifest) is issued by the airline when the airline has to involuntarily reroute a passenger due to flight cancellation or major flight delay.

Involuntary statuses

Airline offices can indicate a reason for an involuntary change to the itinerary, such as a rerouting, or a change in flight accommodation, such as an upgrade or a downgrade. The involuntary indicator appears in the I column, which is next to the ST column and is not shown in the e-ticket record display here.

The following table lists the involuntary statuses:

Involuntary indicator

Description

C Involuntary downgrade. Passenger compensated.
D Diversion
I No reason given
L Labor-related activity, for example, a strike action
N Involuntary downgrade. Passengers are not compensated.
O Oversale
S Schedule change
U Involuntary upgrade
W Delays related to the weather or initiated by Air Traffic Control
X Cancellation

Remarks on the status requirements for e-ticketing transactions:

  • The TTP/ETRV and TTP (exchange) transactions require that the status of all coupons to be printed, refunded, revalidated, or exchanged/reissued is O (open for use) as determined from the corresponding ETKT record displayed immediately prior to performing the desired transaction.
  • All follow-up transactions are permitted for status A. However as part of the follow-up process, the validating carrier must request the return of control of the coupon from the Marketing/Operating carrier prior to responding to Amadeus for the request. Confirmation to Amadeus for the follow-up is only possible provided that the validating carrier has received the return of control, else the follow-up must be rejected.
  • The print, refund, revalidation, and exchange/reissue functions (and additionally print exchange) may take place if the coupon status is A, C, I, or L. However these are airport control functions. For more information, refer to IATA resolution 722f. The functions are NOT supported, for these coupon status codes, by Amadeus Electronic Ticketing. They are only available to the airline holding airport control on the affected coupon and involve interaction with the departure control system of the operating carrier to remove the coupon from check-in control.
  • There are additional implications when the operating carrier uses a third-party departure control system at a specific board point. There are other implications when the operating carrier is not the validating carrier (interline ETKT) and the operating carrier must update the status in the ETKT database of the validating carrier as a change of status transaction. For example, a ticket validated on BA with a coupon on an AF flight and coupon is under AF airport control.
