Why this book was weird as fuck, is a very good question, after sleeping it through I can decide what to make out of this book, it was a hybrid between a soap opera and kamasutra? 🤔
I still haven't found where the suspense was in this book... because if you call suspense a psychopathic ex fiance with stalking problems and hearing difficulties (seems he can't understand what NO means, so I'm guessing he's just plain deaf, because of course he wouldn't be an asswhipe and try to rape someone 😌), some weird secret society (that mostly revolves around sex slavery if you kindly ask me 💁🏻♀️) and some "murder" happened at the beginning of the book (if you can call that murder because seriously, I saw what was cominga mile away 😪😒).
There's also all the over the top drama with the ⚠️ TRIGGERS WARNINGS of the TRIGGERS WARNINGS ⚠️ , let me be frank here, there's no big TW in this book:
• Dub-con **(the heroine is drugged by the Hero, as per usual in their fairytale, and they have oral sex and some messing around)**
• Intention of Rape **(the deaf ex fiancè, who's clearly misunderstood here 😌🤡, tries to rape our heroine after he kidnapped her not before he "killed" our dear pharmacist hero Ryat)**
• Violence **(some punches here an there, slitting throats here and there too, gutting out some guys, drowning some girls... our heroine gets her face rearranged by her misunderstood deaf ex fiancé, some gunshots here and there, and our most misunderstood boy gets his balls and 🍌🍆 cut off his tiny and misunderstood body 😭🤡)**
• Disturbing Sex **(both mc's have sex in a kind of storage room, where they have just killed someone and the body is still there in the floor (some horny rabbits they are 😏, who can't even control themselves, not even in front of a corpse just killed by them 🐰❤😎))**

(or what do I even know at this point) and just drugs our heroine day in and day after too (that's just SO romantic I can't even...), and if someone crosses his way then drugs for him/her too 🙆🏻♀️👏🏼

● BLAKELY (if you have that awesome name, then the least you can do is live up to it 😒), our heroine, what a disaster she was, pushover gets a new meaning with her, her ex fiancé, her fake mother, her father, her real mother, Ryat and(the never appearing) secret society LORD, that's all the people she gets pushed around by, and not doing a damn thing about it 😭💀
[She's remained a virgin waiting for her boyfriend three years, since he started his celibacy test and she just entered the university as a freshman, can she be more dumb, celibacy, seriously? 🤡]

And let's say, that okay, that's freedom because in the end you chose to be a sex slave/chosen, but everything was orchestrated by our dear pharmacist Ryat (who likes to play with peoples lives when he's ordered to), so in the end where's the election? Where's the fucking freedom? I don't see it anywhere 🧐

Blake, really should have been told that being sexually adventurous/open doesn't mean she's strong, powerful and in control. Both were good sexual partners (not gonna deny that 🙌🏻), they had great chemistry, they were hot and steamy BUT THAT'S ALL, apart from that, nothing more. Expectations for an emotional connection growing between them, don't even waste your time on that 🤚🏻, just ride the wave 🌊 and don't look for more (won't find it).
Just enjoy the sex which it's not bad and thelittle suspense (more like none 🙆🏻♀️).
There was ONE character I did like at the end, she should have appeared sooner and more, the most interesting one and the real 'badass', what a heroine should be like. Ms. Le Anne, was definitely one of a kind too, but in this case, I did quite enjoy her (kill me! yes, she's a woman so that was a bonus point for her, not ashamed, power for women always 😌)
EXAMPLE:
“A Lord is nothing without his Lady.” She calls out, making me pause. I turn back to look at her. “Ryat without you, is just another ordinary man.” Standing, she walks around the desk and makes her way over to me. “You make him a Lord, Blakely.” Reaching out, I suck in a deep breath when her fingers grab a piece of my hair. “Don’t ever kneel thinking that you need to serve him. Kneel because you want to serve him.” I swallow nervously. “You have the power to make him hear, see and believe whatever you want to. Keep that in mind when he tells you he loves you.”

So, in overall the book was lacking, there was good steam, poorly developed characters,suspense 🤡, some good ideas for a dark romance (anyone out there wants to develop these? 😌😏) but poorly executed and a messed up ending with a lot of filler drama (taken out from a long bad soap opera).
We weren't almost talked anything about this supposed secret society, only a few crumbs here and there, we still don't know what they do 🥸, the character's drama thrown in at random was some special gift there 👏🏼🥳, the non existent backgrounds for both mc's (if you take the sex what remains are two plain and flat dorks, toxic to the core 🙆🏻♀️😌), we don't even know how Matt and Blakely met ( wtf 🤨).
If you enjoy a kinky, toxic, darkromance 🤡 with a little of filler drama (I guess it's not to overdose readers with sex 🤣🤡) here and there, then this is your book, go and read it! I'm sure you will enjoy it!!

Life is a highway and I wanna ride Ryat all night long 😭🙌🏽 Normally I hate the Female characters in books but BLAKE she is the definition of a ride or die chick! Sis, is a smart ass capable independent woman! Her growth through this book is amazing! I love how Ryat from day one never shamed her of her kinks.

There's a fine line between not enough and too much and god I can't believe I am going to say this but these two had the stamina like rabbits on viagra. Every chapter or so they were at it, not once, not twice but three times..It was so hot to begin with but then it just became too much..I wish there was more focus on the Lords. And other times I just wanted to see a softer side of their unconventional relationship.
So many twists and turns that were popping up leaving me gasping in their wake, this was dark, kinky, and so twisted. From start to finish I enjoyed this unusual, unique, unputdownable ride this author took me on. This author took a lot of risks with this book, the plot, the society and I'm so glad I took that plunge and read this because I have never read anything like it.

so the theme of this one was literally either everyone is fucking everyone or theyre all lying and being stuck up which made me so mad bc Im over here to trying to read this dark romance book and literally its only about sex the whole damn time like DAMN!!! if I wanted to read about that i would go read after again!!!
anywhoo i will say there was a lot happening and when I mean a lot was happening a lot was happening when I finally finished this I was like DOBBY IS FREE DOBBY IS FREEEE!!!
talk about drama both families were pissing me off!! the mom especially when she was forcing her daughter to still marry the guy who cheated on her the whole time literally when they got together I was like there's no way!! omg that boy better run for his life bc I was ready to call on the avengers, justice league, xmen, and ninja turtles on his ass! like ik he didn't respect his family and u want girl to start a family with him yeah the way I would have to separate myself!! and then the mom had the nerve to be like well there's always obstacles in a relationship bruh! not that kind omg can someone revoke her license to be a person or something bc I've about had it up to here with her! and then ryats dad (the mmc) was like why would u choose her over ur duty as a chosen (basically its a whole group that has guy members pick a women to be theirs for however long they want and the women gives her consent yeah ik talk about craaazy) well I mean thats what love is its not like he would know or anything with his sexist ass!!

but omg I did love the couple blake and ryat will always have my heart 💗💕🤗 they are absolutely so cute together like there was a scene where blake asked ryat to take a nap with her and he was like whatever my lady wants and I was like YESSS THATS ME I WANT U!! 🧎♀️ I was literally giggling and kicking my feet he was so damn fine!! like if it were against the law to be that sexy he would be in prison for life!!! 😂😏 ok let me just stop!
and the lying was just so freaking annoying!! literally everyone was just trying to break them up one person was like blake was talking to this man and trying to kiss him and I'm over here like girl was literally sleeping the whole freaking book so unless she's sleep kissing just go ahead and sit down somewhere and then another day she found this girl in the apartment claiming she was with ryat when they split and I was like WHO ARE U I've been reading this book for how long (sadly) and I have no clue who u are! I have more of a chance being able to identify Casper the friendly ghost than whoever u are

This book made me so mad.
Both were into forced-sex fantasies and CNC but there wasn't a single conversation about limits, consent or safe words. At the same time, the story tried to preach to the audience how this kind of fantasy is normal and there's nothing to be ashamed of. But portrayed it in the worst way possible.
He treated her like his property and as such, he did whatever he wanted with her. But don't worry, because she was always ready for him 🙄

I've read plenty of dark romances with similar themes and I found them really well done. But this story read like the idealization of porn and how it rottens and twistes our idea of what women find desirable in sex. Why is it only women who love to be degraded, beaten, choked, hurt? Why did we buy into the idea tha sex equals pain for us and not them?

I really wanted to like this. Like REALLY REALLY.
I miss the days of the Dare series. 🖤 Cole Reynolds is in my top 3 Bullies. 😍 I've been waiting for a book from this author that feels more like those. Monogamous couple with some edge. Jealous/possessive H, spunky h. And after begging for spoilers from friends, I finally got someone to tell me that the H doesn't share the h with anyone and she is only with him. So, I thought I was buckled in for a winner.... Oh, poor sweet naive Mel. 😅
Honestly, I liked how it started. 🤷🏼♀️ Seemed super promising. Standard bullyish beginning. Interesting premise... but I started grimacing and frowning fairly early. 😬
I mean, the premise is typical... there's a glorified college frat that caters to the super wealthy and powerful. This one has an initiation process that includes forced celibacy and M U R D E R. In this story, the guys that make it to year 3 without getting knocked off, get to choose a sex slave. No worries though, the girls inexplicably agree to do it. So, you can unclutch your pearls, guys... these girls totally WANT to be objectified and used in sexual slavery and passed around to anyone their "Lord" chooses. 👀 Isn't that the dream of all college girls? 👀 If they are REALLY good, and one of these Lords decides they want to make one of these classy gals their wife, then that gal gets to be crowned a "Lady", but not before proving they can be M U R D E R Y as well. Seems legit. 🤷🏼♀️ And what do the guys get out of the deal? THE ULTIMATE POWER. 🤡 Well, our H (Ryat) gets to become a…judge... 👀 I'm not sure why he doesn't just attend college and become a judge.... but I guess, you do you boo. Whatevs. 👀
Anywho... that's basically the end of the world building. They do all their weird public sex rituals in an old church, inexplicably in the baptism pool. Because...sure. 🙄
So our h (Blakely) is a 21 year old virgin. Her boyfriend of 3-years is in this sex frat, but she knows absolutely nothing about it. He tells her he's saving himself for marriage, so she assumes that's why he doesn't have sex with her. Also, this is an unwanted arranged relationship by her parents. She's promised to marry this tool, doesn't particularly like him, but for some reason she's been trying to sex him up for 3 years. 🤔 You should also know that her father was a Lord, and she vaguely knows this, but again is COMPLETELY in the dark of all goings-on with the group. Apparently it only occurs to her to ask questions 3 years in... okie dokie. 👍🏻
So, our H is given the h as his "chosen" sex slave... Get this... BY HER FATHER 🥴 (she's unaware of that part). The h decides the sex slave life is A-ok because it means she's FREEEEE.... 🥴 I mean, that's certainly an interesting perspective... I couldn’t come up with a reason why any woman would agree to this. There really didn’t seem to be any sort of upside to it for the women, besides sex… but they don’t even have a guarantee that they’ll like it… but at this point, I was still trying desperately to roll with it. 🙈
Now Ryat? He has all the basics that make me swoon:

...oh wait... here's where things really start to get weird. Ryat really likes an unconscious gal. Like it's his favorite. He is forever drugging our h. For sex. For transportation. For her safety. I mean can you really blame him? It's way more convenient than having a conversation. And Blakely basically sleeps for half this book. The rest of the time she's having crazy sex. Sometimes WHILE she's asleep.
And you know the j/p thing? I mean, I really like it when the H is a psycho over the h... but Ryat doesn't even know Blakely and he's already waaaay super possessive and jealous, and that is one thing that really bugs me. When it feels like he'd be this way about ANY gal who was his "chosen", it loses it's charm. He isn't particularly attracted to Blakely, either. He knows she's supposed to marry someone else and he's just fine with that. Likes it even, because he'll get to hand her back all used up, and he's really into that thought. But he's adamant that no one watches them have sex and he won't share her while she's his chosen, bucking the norm. Why though? Normally, I'd be all Swoon City with that, but this felt like a miss to me. His j/p feelings aren't about her at all. In fact, they just come off as wildly insecure since they weren't based on his feeling for the h. What's sexy about that? For this reader? Not much. 😐
I will say that I enjoyed how controlling he was. 😬🤷🏼♀️ He gets all bent out of shape about her clothes and confiscates anything he thinks is too revealing and burns it. That's probably my favorite part of this book. I wish she'd expounded on that, because I love this sort of sh*t. 😅
Anyway back to Blakely... so, she's not a badass. I like that. She's obviously a natural sub. What I thought was weird is that she's a virgin and somehow just KNOWS she's gonna love pain with her sex... I'm not sure how she would know that since she has very limited experience... But she's really super into it. In fact she's amazingly into absolutely EVERYTHING Ryat throws down. Not a single qualm about any of it. Not even being drugged and sexed up. She likes it. The author goes out of her way to establish enthusiastic consent before we get very far down the rabbit hole of sexual slavery. And I'm gonna be completely honest... that took away from the edginess and my enjoyment of it. I mean, what's the point of having the experienced H and the virginal h if she's just gonna go full porn star immediately? And is it really a sex slave if she's an enthusiastic participant? She was fine with all of it. Wasn't even nervous. 👀🤨
So, now we're at 15%

And the rest of the book is just a loooooooooong laundry list of sexual kinks. To me, it seemed like the sexual fantasies of a virginal 15 year old boy, who has watched WAAAAY too much porn. I mean there is literally something for everyone. And only some of it seemed even remotely plausibly pleasureable for Blakely. Weird positions that couldn't possibly have been acted out to check for accuracy... I was cringing through at least 2 scenes where Ryat has tied up Blakely in the most uncomfortable way possible... I kept going back to figure out the arms and legs... and was left thinking... WHYYYYY??? Who could possibly enjoy this? It's not about the kink... it's about how are you going to get off in these positions??? if they are even really a possibility.... and really, if I'm having to reread to figure it out the logistics, it's lost the sexy. Just Stop.
It felt like such a miss, honestly. I was down for almost everything. But this was Everything But The Kitchen Sink, and it was overkill. This book would have been improved immensely if she had picked a lane... maybe 2 or 3 kinks and explored them with more nuance and depth and intimacy. As it was, it felt like a drive by of Sex 'R Us. None of it was done well, or in a particularly sexy way. The sex didn't further the relationship development or the story in any way. It was just sex. And there was a lot of it. So much. 😐 And the biggest miss, for me, was that none of the sex, except for the rape fantasy, was Blakely-centric. Basically, Ryat has been forced to be celibate for 3 years, and during that time he watched a sh*t ton of porn, and made a list of all the things he was gonna do to his chosen sex slave, when he finally got one. So, Blakely was essentially a nameless faceless warm body for Ryat to use. He wasn't particularly into her, but he shrugged, and said "she'll do"... because he didn't care. He just wanted to have sex. With ANYONE. I'm not sure that he was EVER motivated by any feelings for Blakely. Hell, he even marries her to one-up his rival. So *romantic*.
Speaking of relationship development... there was none. At all. They go from not knowing each other to having super intense kinky sex, to both thinking they weren't in love with each other - probably didn't particularly like one another... then the next page they tell each other they love each other. Made no damn sense. They have had ZERO conversations that weren't directly related to their situation and sex. They don't do anything together except for sex and sleep. they have learned nothing new about the other... I was completely stumped.

Bottom Line? So much potential but this was wildly disappointing, and that disappointment was made worse by the excessive length (0ver 500 pages). So, you can unclutch your pearls, guys... these girls totally WANT to be objectified and used in sexual slavery and passed around to anyone their "Lord" chooses. 👀 Isn't that the dream of all college girls? 👀 If they are REALLY good, and one of these Lords decides they want to make one of these classy gals their wife, then that gal gets to be crowned a "Lady", but not before proving they can be M U R D E R Y as well. Seems legit. 🤷🏼♀️ And what do the guys get out of the deal? THE ULTIMATE POWER. 🤡 Well, our H (Ryat) gets to become a…judge... 👀 I'm not sure why he doesn't just attend college and become a judge.... but I guess, you do you boo. Whatevs. 👀

He tells her he's saving himself for marriage, so she assumes that's why he doesn't have sex with her. Also, this is an unwanted arranged relationship by her parents. She's promised to marry this tool, doesn't particularly like him, but for some reason she's been trying to sex him up for 3 years. 🤔 You should also know that her father was a Lord, and she vaguely knows this, but again is COMPLETELY in the dark of all goings-on with the group. Apparently it only occurs to her to ask questions 3 years in... okie dokie. 👍🏻
So, our H is given the h as his "chosen" sex slave... Get this... BY HER FATHER 🥴 (she's unaware of that part). The h decides the sex slave life is A-ok because it means she's FREEEEE.... 🥴 I mean, that's certainly an interesting perspective... I couldn’t come up with a reason why any woman would agree to this. There really didn’t seem to be any sort of upside to it for the women, besides sex… but they don’t even have a guarantee that they’ll like it… but at this point, I was still trying desperately to roll with it. 🙈

Sometimes WHILE she's asleep.
And you know the j/p thing? I mean, I really like it when the H is a psycho over the h... but Ryat doesn't even know Blakely and he's already waaaay super possessive and jealous, and that is one thing that really bugs me. When it feels like he'd be this way about ANY gal who was his "chosen", it loses it's charm. He isn't particularly attracted to Blakely, either. He knows she's supposed to marry someone else and he's just fine with that. Likes it even, because he'll get to hand her back all used up, and he's really into that thought. But he's adamant that no one watches them have sex and he won't share her while she's his chosen, bucking the norm. Why though? Normally, I'd be all Swoon City with that, but this felt like a miss to me. His j/p feelings aren't about her at all. In fact, they just come off as wildly insecure since they weren't based on his feeling for the h. What's sexy about that? For this reader? Not much. 😐
I will say that I enjoyed how controlling he was. 😬🤷🏼♀️ He gets all bent out of shape about her clothes and confiscates anything he thinks is too revealing and burns it. That's probably my favorite part of this book. I wish she'd expounded on that, because I love this sort of sh*t. 😅
Anyway back to Blakely... so, she's not a badass. I like that. She's obviously a natural sub. What I thought was weird is that she's a virgin and somehow just KNOWS she's gonna love pain with her sex... I'm not sure how she would know that since she has very limited experience... But she's really super into it. In fact she's amazingly into absolutely EVERYTHING Ryat throws down. Not a single qualm about any of it. Not even being drugged and sexed up. She likes it. The author goes out of her way to establish enthusiastic consent before we get very far down the rabbit hole of sexual slavery. And I'm gonna be completely honest... that took away from the edginess and my enjoyment of it. I mean, what's the point of having the experienced H and the virginal h if she's just gonna go full porn star immediately? And is it really a sex slave if she's an enthusiastic participant? She was fine with all of it. Wasn't even nervous. 👀🤨

And the rest of the book is just a loooooooooong laundry list of sexual kinks. To me, it seemed like the sexual fantasies of a virginal 15 year old boy, who has watched WAAAAY too much porn. Weird positions that couldn't possibly have been acted out to check for accuracy... I was cringing through at least 2 scenes where Ryat has tied up Blakely in the most uncomfortable way possible... I kept going back to figure out the arms and legs... and was left thinking... WHYYYYY??? Who could possibly enjoy this? It's not about the kink... it's about how are you going to get off in these positions??? if they are even really a possibility.... and really, if I'm having to reread to figure it out the logistics, it's lost the sexy. Just Stop.
It felt like such a miss, honestly. I was down for almost everything. But this was Everything But The Kitchen Sink, and it was overkill. This book would have been improved immensely if she had picked a lane... maybe 2 or 3 kinks and explored them with more nuance and depth and intimacy. As it was, it felt like a drive by of Sex 'R Us. None of it was done well, or in a particularly sexy way. The sex didn't further the relationship development or the story in any way. It was just sex. And there was a lot of it. So much. 😐 And the biggest miss, for me, was that none of the sex, except for the rape fantasy, was Blakely-centric. Basically, Ryat has been forced to be celibate for 3 years, and during that time he watched a sh*t ton of porn, and made a list of all the things he was gonna do to his chosen sex slave, when he finally got one. So, Blakely was essentially a nameless faceless warm body for Ryat to use. He wasn't particularly into her, but he shrugged, and said "she'll do"... because he didn't care. He just wanted to have sex. With ANYONE. I'm not sure that he was EVER motivated by any feelings for Blakely. Hell, he even marries her to one-up his rival. So *romantic*.
Speaking of relationship development... there was none. At all. They go from not knowing each other to having super intense kinky sex, to both thinking they weren't in love with each other - probably didn't particularly like one another... then the next page they tell each other they love each other. Made no damn sense. They have had ZERO conversations that weren't directly related to their situation and sex. They don't do anything together except for sex and sleep. they have learned nothing new about the other... I was completely stumped.

The Ritual is sweltering hot. I am no stranger to this author and have to say this is one of her kinkiest and my favorite book that she has written. When I saw that cover, I just knew this was going to be epic, dark, and intense.

The author has stepped up her game. The kinks alone,I Love how she added Somnophilia into the play. These two I swear melted my Kindle. Ladies have extra knickers on hand, extra batteries, or if you have chargeables; Charge it before you start this book. 🥵 The book has a perfect balance of spice and a very entertaining plot.
Did you ever read that one book where you just have a couple of chapters left, and you start to tear up because it’s the end? Because you don't want it to end and you just want more of them? I just did. With The Ritual. All good things come to an end and the author blew my mind.
I will add, this book is tied for my top book of the year. It’s a one-click book. Read your trigger warnings; the book is riddled with them. And enjoy.

Well, first of all I have to say that after reading 204 pages of this book I need urgent optical surgery after the number of times I immersed my eyes in bleach.
Before continuing, I want to clarify that my intention is not to shame my dark romance girlies, nor anyone who liked this book, this is simply my opinion, and also add that I do NOT like dark romance.
When I say that the book, at least the 200 pages that I have read, has 0 plot, it doesn't even make sense.
Supposedly we find ourselves at Barrington University, home of the Lords, a secret society, in my opinion, men with fragile masculinity who do "bad boy things" like kill and have a girl as a reward to basically be their sex slave.
The main characters, Blakely and Ryat, meet in the most cliché way possible, your classic y/n x Harry styles wattpad scenario, he bumps into her in a hallway, while she runs with books in her hand, and yes, you guessed it, she drops all the books, but GET READY! plot twist, he doesn't help her pick them up, and that makes her horny, another plot twist, he had planned that crash because he is stalking her. And so I could continue with scene after scene, each one more ridiculous than the last.

He burns her clothes (not in a mean way it is very sexy don't worry), he kills men for her, he protects her, he tortures, I mean what can this man not do. Anyway I will never stop parading this man thank you very much.

this book made me wish i couldn't read so i wouldn't have to suffer trying to finish it. this shit was almost 500 pages for no damn reason.
plot was dumb, all over the place & predictable, mc's had no depth or chemistry whatsoever, they were either fucking or walking around in a towel. idk why the author constantly felt the need to have them shower every 2 minutes. names like sarah, prickett, gunner, tyson were also included ................ i need a trauma check. i couldn't even tell u how it ended bc i was so bored towards the last 80 pages i just skimmed.
ryat was constantly drugging her so casually ??? like that's something u do on the norm ???? secondly who the fuck names their kid ryat
ik i should've gave up on it when sis said she knew she had a UTI bc she got dirt & branches in her vagina from fucking in the woods. id rather eat a jean jacket than read or recommend this book. unless u like wattpad fan fictions poorly written written by a teenager

I’M FUCKING FREEEEE. i can’t believe it but i managed to finish this damn book. wtf i just read? my eyes still burn.
this book has no plot whatsoever. this was a shit show from the beginning to the very end. all the things that happened made no fucking sense and i was confused most of the time and that says a lot since my fav genre is fantasy! some scenes could be considered bollywood drama coded and i lost most of my brain cells reading that shit. the events are thrown in the pot without making any sense, ngl i ate the drama at first but then it was a fucking joke!
the author had the nerve to write about: crazy ex-fiance, sex slavery, fake crazy mother, a pregnancy trope (???), murder, marriage, violence, kinks, SA, kidnap, forced-sex AND SO ON. THE LIST DOES NOT END HERE!!!! atp i should think she didn’t know how to make this story even more bad than how already was, so she threw whatever came to her mind?
the characters are bland and toxic asf; ryat has definitely a god complex and for the first half of the book, he’s a violent misogynist who thinks women are object and men have the right to do whatever the fuck they want to them, which is bullshit if you ask me. in 2024 there still are women who like to be treated as objet? i’m asking for a friend. i get the domination/submission kink but this feels more like sex slavery!!! he even put a gps tracker in her fucking neck!!!!!!!!!!!

I disliked so many things about this.
So many exclamation points after normal sentences.
The name Ryat. I pronounced it "Rat" in my head. Is that right? I don't care at this point.
Lords at a prestigious college who get away with whatever they want and take in Ladies who they can treat however they want, yet protect from the outside...you ever read Lords of Pain, because I did. Kinda sounds familiar. And that one was five stars.
These little lord twerps do nothing all day but have sex and murder people. And no one really cares. Then they grow up and still do whatever they want, and no one cares. Who would these people be in real life? Ryat goes undercover in jail to perform a hit on someone. What world is this even? These are college kids. When I was in college I studied and ate Ramen. I didn't have time to sleep, yet alone murder a bunch of people.
Blakely is just a doormat. Lame-o. Then she suddenly kills the woman who raised her like 🤷🏻♀️ ain't no big thang. Oh and of course, she's a virgin who does, and loves, every sex thing. Deep throating and anal and breath play and watching people and being smacked etc etc etc.
The sex was hot. Some good fetishes. The forced sex fantasy is a good one. But then having Matt beat the hell out of her and almost rape her is kinda triggering to some people probably.
Oh. And how Blake's "tits bounce when she breathes" is some kind of weird shit I've never seen in real life. But her boobs must be magic because it was mentioned about 7 times.
Another part of her anatomy that he loves is her "bubble butt". Great. He mentioned that about eleven billion times.
The amount of times he drugs her is just comical. I picture him with a little fanny pack with different meds and a pill crusher and alcohol swabs and syringes and needles. Because, girl will get an abscess you keep sticking her with dirty needles. And you can't just plop sedatives in her glass of water. You have to finely crush them with a pill crusher. She should know better than to accept something from him that isn't factory sealed, and if that doesn't say true love, I don't know what does.
Also. IDGAF what songs are playing. It doesn't matter that Mouse Rat is playing while they are stabbing someone or while he's drugging her again. I found it annoying and distracting that the author kept mentioning it.
It was just a bunch of weirdness mashed into a book that had too many ideas, didn't make a lot of sense, and didn't do anything for me AT ALL. First, and last, read by this author.

Okay, so I was in the hunt for a new dark read, and a friend of mine recommended this series…….. so of course I went to find it on amazon and realize I already had it on my Trusty little Kindle…….. so, God only knows why I didn’t read this book sooner

Okay for those of you that doesn’t know this authors work –{LIKE ME }, this is you’re fair warning……. This book covers so many dark elements, if you do not enjoy this type of read, I suggest that you stay clear of this book.

I did enjoy the aspects of the dark parts and all that came along with it. Only problem was. The book was wayyyyyyyyy too looong ……. Now the spicy scenes were plentiful, but dang I can’t believe I’m going to say this, but there was way too many Sex scenes and not enough storyline……. So, I somewhat debated on what my rating would be of this book between the fact that I enjoy the twist and turns I would state that this was a one of the best parts of the book 📙., but due to the fact that there were too many sex scenes. And they felt like rinse and repeat. So, I would drop it to either two or three stars……. So, that leave me stuck in the middle. With my ratings to this book.
Blood, death, and secrets are what this book is made up, and dang some those twist and turns ….. Has me craving more from this author….And believe it or not, I’m curious for more of this society……. I’m willing to try the next book in the series to see if my ratings will improve……. I think it be hot second before I return to this series…..Okay, okay. Don’t judge me.

I LOVED the premise of this book. It had everything I love in a dark romance, But it was so disappointing.
The author took a bunch of cool ideas and shocking situations and strung them together and it left a lot to be desired.
There are two main things I need in a book and the first is GOOD WRITING. It’s such a bummer when there’s an awesome idea and yet the writing is like high school fanfiction. I also need really believable solid characters. It’s hard to get into when one minute they’re acting like themselves so to speak and then they’re spewing out childish sayings or whatnot. It’s jarring and ruins the immersion into the story.

This book started out sooo promising, but our H and h immediately fell into an almost instalove sort of thing. Our H didn’t want her in the beginning but was forced to choose her, then after some stalking for a couple weeks now he can’t wait to have her and he’s obsessed with her…what?
And our h has hardly learned anything about the Lords and whatnot, but after a drunk sexual encounter and a drugged sexual encounter with our H and finding out her BF was cheating on her, she is ready to be his and already seems to know what’s expected of her as a Chosen…though in the beginning she never found out what exactly was expected of her…..
And don’t get me started on their inner monologues…
There were just so many issues….things happened constantly, so the climax of the book didn’t have any real emotional impact, or any sort of impact. This book needed to be fleshed out A LOT. There was no depth.
This is my second book by this author, and may be my last. A brilliant premise that I wish someone else had written. So frustrating and disappointing.

I've seen this book everywhere ever since it came out but didn't give it much thought until I saw a quote from the third book in the series and decided it was about time I added it to my collection.
Of course I couldn't embark in this smutty journey by myself so I kindly got my twinsie on board and we happily binged our way through this fuck-fest.
And what an unhinged fuck-fest it was lol
The shameless butterflies this stupidly questionable book gave me have no right to exist, but they do, and they ate away at my stomach ever since Ryat (you pretentious sexy psycho) and Blakely first met in the least romantic of way.
*dreamy sigh* What has my life become.
Anywaaaaaaaaaaaay...
Up until a good third into the book, I was completely obsessed with the main characters and every single deranged and impossibly hot situation they put themselves into, and little matters (to me, clearly) that the trigger warning list that comes with this book is as long as a Quentin Tarantino's movie's end credit sequence, I couldn't stop reading.
But of course plot had to get in the way and what was until that moment a pictoresque carousel of toe-curling smut, gratuitous violence and deliciously well-placed scarlet flags, turned into a mess of shocking moments and twists that made very little sense and made it almost impossible to go back to my previous enjoyment.
Unfortunately, things didn't get much better but I ended up speeding through the final chapters anyway, because, despite it all, I was all in and hooked.
I'm not saying I didn't like the ending, but I wish the plot didn't get out of control the way it did in that last 20%.
Plus the epilogue was weirdly cute, all things considered.
I suppose I can't fault a dark/bully romance for getting out of track here and there.
However, I really wanted to give it 5 stars and bask in the afterglow of all the wicked things I've read about, and it would have been that way if the last portion of the book didn't spoil the fun with its rude plot twists.
Oh, well, at least the journey was interesting.

Shantel Tessier always bring the delicious, dark, and depraved romance I crave! The Ritual is full of morally gray characters, total villains, blood, violence, devastating betrayal, bitter rivalry, shocking twists, kinks of all kinds, and a ton of hot, filthy sex all of which involve a secret society, arranged marriages, and a host of criminal activity. What more could you possibly want?!
This book is supposed to be a standalone, but I hope it's not. The author could easily write more in this world, and there are a few characters that I would love to revisit. Fingers crossed she changes her mind!!
