Manson Guitar Works is an internationally respected custom guitar builder in the U.K. that has been working with Matthew Bellamy for over two decades. Founded by highly respected luthier Hugh Manson and CEO Adrian Ashton, the company has built instruments for a wide range of global superstars.

In 2019 Bellamy took a majority stake in the company with Ashton remaining as CEO. With the workshop headed up by master luthier Tim Stark, the company has continued to create numerous custom guitars for Bellamy. The company has overseen the specification and development of the MBM-1 from its workshop and R&D facility in Ashburton, Great Britain.

Every Manson Matthew Bellamy model has been designed between the artist and Manson Guitar Works. The very first collaboration was the instrument known as the “DeLorean” designed by Hugh Manson in 2001. The latest production Manson Guitar, the MBM-1, had to reflect the multitude of instruments that Matthew chooses to use on stage. To reach a new audience and price point with the MBM-1 guitar, extensive development time and multiple prototypes were produced in conjunction with our existing partner, Cort Guitars. The MBM-1was personally analysed and tested at the Manson Guitar Works headquarters in Great Britain under the team’s experienced eyes and then forwarded to the artist at each stage.

KILL BUTTON

The MBM-1 features a discrete kill button allowing you to creatively expand the wide range of sounds already available.

LOCKING TUNERS

The MBM-1 is equipped with locking tuners.
These die-cast tuners assure stage-ready tuning stability.

PICKUPS

The MBM-1 is equipped with pickups developed by Manson Guitar Works especially for this guitar. The versatile setup includes fully voiced humbuckers in the neck and bridge positions reflecting the layout of several of Bellamy’s stage and studio custom instruments.

The MBM’s control and pickup set required extensive research and hours of exhaustive testing. The pickups needed to reflect the tone of a multitude of Manson Guitars used over the decades whilst having an identifiable sound of their own. Reflecting a more recent trend towards humbucker styled neck pickups on Matt’s current stage guitars a new design was created to match the existing and already highly respected bridge pickup tones. The result? More power, more warmth and a better match to the bridge pickup. The final set-up was approved for its vast tone, ability to cover a variety of styles and as a reflection of the tone of the MB range. A discrete kill button allows rapid fire staccato effects without distracting from the sleek look of the guitar.



NECK

The Manson neck profile and shape has consistently received praise around the globe in many five star reviews. To maintain that competitive edge the new MBM-1 features the Manson soft V profile with a satin finish to give an immediate played-in feel. It’s the reason we refer to it as Meta Series; what has gone before was of excellence, but our philosophy is to transcend to a better product whilst referencing everything that existed before.

CONTROLS

The controls on the MBM-1 are simple while versatile. There is a single volume control, master tone and a three way switch. This controls the 2 humbucker pickup combination. It all works together with the kill button and the overall instrument design to give you a highly creative and great sounding instrument.
