Henry is a large green tender engine who lives and works on the Island of Sodor and is the North Western Railway's number 3 engine.

Personality[]

Henry is a long and fast green tender engine who chugs around wishing everyone a breezy "Good morning!" He can be a bit of a worrier, and he prefers calm days. Henry loves pulling long goods trains, and likes good manners and respect towards others.

Technical Details[]

Basis[]

In his first appearance, Henry is simply recoloured from Gordon, leading the two to share the same loose appearance of an LNER Gresley A1, albeit with a 2-6-2 wheel arrangement closer to that of a V2. This coincidently mimics Henry's old shape from the first season in the original series, which has a similar appearance to Gordon.

Since his first appearance however, Henry has been incrementally modified to more closely resemble his more common post-rebuild appearance, which is based upon an LMS Stanier 5MT Class 5, though still retains many features of Gordon's base model, such as the running board shape and 2-6-2 wheel arrangement.

Livery[]

Henry is painted green with red lining and the number 3 in yellow with red lining on his tender.

Trivia[]

  • Since his last appearance in Thomas & Friends, Henry has gained notable changes in his design:
    • He is now a modified version of Gordon's vector with Percy's color palette, meaning:
      • Originally, he started off as a direct recolor of Gordon with only the number switched out. However as the series progressed, more features from his original design were added back.
        • He had his back leading wheel becoming a trailing wheel, meaning that he has a 2-6-2 wheel arrangement rather than the 4-6-0 arrangement he had originally.
        • He has a four-wheeled version of a Fowler tender instead of the Stanier tender like the original series.
        • He now has green irises.
        • His back wheel arcs are now full arches rather than half arches which once made room for his old firebox.
        • The back of his cab roof was extended.
        • The front part of his running board is curved, however from The Tiger Train onwards, the back end returned to its original shape, leaving only the front curved.
        • He used to have two small windows on his cab sides instead of one large window. Starting from The Tiger Train onwards, his window was changed to its original design.
        • His dome is now gold.
        • His buffers are now oval-shaped like Gordon and Yong Bao's.
        • His handrails have been removed.
        • He lost his brake pipe.
        • His lamp irons have disappeared.
        • Only the first half of his running board remains grey, while the rest of it is now red.
        • His side rods have been removed.
        • His tender is now connected with buffers and chain-link couplings.
        • His cab is no longer open.
        • He gained a new whistle sound in The Tiger Train. From Nia's Surprising Surprise onwards, however, Henry regains his whistle sound from the original series, as previously used in No Power, No Problem!.
        • He had the same type of firebox that Gordon had in Kana Goes Slow, similar to the first season of the original series, until later in Dragon Run where he regains his square firebox again.
  • Both Henry and Edward were main characters for most of the original series' run and part of the original Steam Team. However, they were demoted to supporting characters in the Big World! Big Adventures! rebrand. In All Engines Go, they have been reduced to background characters. Both characters did not speak, nor were they referred to by name in the first two seasons. This is due to the fact that they were added last minute when the animators needed more engines.
    • However, with all the promotional artwork and merchandise he has been getting, he is likely to speak in the third season or the fourth season.
  • Henry's #3 digit is reused for Bruno.
  • Along with Edward, they were both referred to their names for the first time in All Engines Go in the Meet the Engines book.
