As a student, I believe that school academics are paramount to my growth. I aspire to become a well-educated person. The English and History departments are great, although sometimes the curriculum is not challenging enough for top-performing students. I enjoyed Mr. Clark's U.S. History and Mr. Brunner's 9th-grade English classes the most because they challenged me to think critically and push myself further. I found all the STEM courses challenging yet manageable. The only course I didn't learn much from was Earth Science. The course curriculum focused on hands-on learning. we barely looked at graphs and never took notes. I've noticed the Slaker students like this course b/c we barely did any work in that class. Our sports dying, and we rarely do well outside of running sports, even placing below average in those.
So far high schools been great. I moved here in 8th grade and everyone was very welcoming. Everyone in my grade gets along with one another and we all have a great time together. My junior and senior year have been the easiest since i’m ping to cosmetology school. So in the afternoon i only have 3 classes.
For a very small public school in a very small town, LPCS did well with what it had. There are a decent amount of opportunities for students considering the school’s size and surrounding area. It has undergone many changes is the last couple years and is clearly trying to make progress and become even better. Most of the teachers there are excellent and I found that they were all very easy to become close to and are all very willing to put in the extra work to help you when you need it. However, there is still much to improve. The lack of diversity has made it very difficult for students who don’t fit the picture of everyone else. Going to school here has made me feel trapped, and like I’m not prepared for the real word outside the protective bubble that is Lake Placid.
