Rep. Greg Pence (R-IN), who first assumed office in 2019, will retire at the end of this Congress, making him the 45th member of the House to announce an exit or to have already left.
In a post on X, Pence, the brother to former Vice President Mike Pence who once held that congressional seat, said that after serving for nearly five years, he had decided to leave Congress.
“As a former Marine Officer, I approached the job with purpose. After three terms, I’ve made the decision not to file for reelection,” Pence said in the post. “For the remainder of my term this year, our team will continue to focus on delivering outstanding constituent services. To the voters in Indiana’s 6th District — it is a privilege and honor to represent you in our Nation’s capital.”

Pence, whose district includes Columbus, is the second Indiana member to announce retirement in as many days.
On Monday, Rep. Larry Bucshon (R-IN) announced that he would also not be running for reelection. In total, four members of Indiana’s nine-member congressional delegation have said they are leaving the House at the end of this year; Rep. Victoria Spartz (R-IN) is retiring, and Rep. Jim Banks (R-IN) is running for the state’s open Senate seat.
