Fresh fish, tasty lunch

We had lunch here a couple of times and both times had grilled fish. It was exactly as I like it, simply grilled and very fresh. Enjoyed the experience.

Terrible service and mediocre food

I sat at the bar and was ignored for at least 15 minutes. They seemed to be too busy making drinks instead of taking my order. Finally somebody left a table and I sat myself there. I ordered a beer and waited another 10 or 15 minutes. I had to ask a second time for my beet. It seems that they didn’t know what they were doing. The only way to get any service is to wave somebody down. With all the options in Holbox, please choose someplace else, this is not worth it! Unfortunately, it was recommended by my hotel.

Amazing Garlic Shrimp & Pasta So fresh

We ate at Viva Zipata our second night in Holbox and the meal and the atmosphere was simply incredible. Honestly some of the best shrimp and Pasta we have ever had. Everything was so fresh tasting and delicious. We 100% recommend eating here!

Terrible food

Staff behind bar no attention to customers . Ordered a Caesar Salad. Worst one ever. Very little chicken and a few croutons. All lettuce and no Parmesan.

Good choice for lunch or dinner.

We ate here a couple of times during our stay. Nice bar out front and restaurant in the back. We had fish filled both times because it was quite good. Also had a nice ensalada mixta. Prices are reasonable and the staff are very efficient and friendly.

Tasteless dinner

We had dinner at Viva Zapata because it was highly rated. The ambience was nice and service was good, but the taste of the food was very basic. A simple dish like chicken fajitas was dry, tasteless and served cold without any sauces, onions, guacamole. It had dried up carrots to make the plate look big! The pricing was expensive for the quality of the food.

Tourist Trap

Over rated! Looks like a fun traditional Mexican restaurant but the food, service and drinks are just bad. Servers were not helpful or friendly. Drinks were weak if any tequila at all. We had fajitas but very little beef 90% onions and bell peppers. Don’t fall for this place.

Viva Zapata doesn't live up to the hype. Not worth wasting your time.

We were told, and also read, that Viva Zapata has the "best fresh fish" in Holbox. The fish is fresh, but the meal quality stops there. It appears to be a restaurant that cranks out less than mediocre food for tourists, preferably those who don't care what they eat. The kitchen clearly takes no pride in creating anything other than slightly upscale school lunch food, My garlic fish was a filet slathered in that awful-tasting minced garlic from a jar. It was served with a spoonful on nondescript rice an a handful of iceberg lettuce drizzled with bottled dressing. My spouse had fish tacos: tortillas with a chunk of plain fish and a slice of avocado. Crank out the flovorless slop and turn over tables! The service was equally bad. We had just gotten menus when a server came to the table and said, "Are you ready to order?" No greeting, didn't offer any info, didn't ask if we'd like something to drink. Neither of us finished our food, and other servers cleared plates without a word. Didn't ask if we'd enjoyed our dinners, if we'd like another drink, if there was anything else we needed. Bad manners across the board except for the sweet hostesses. No doubt dealing with tourists every day would get old, but every other restaurant we'd tried in Holbox had friendly, competent service and thoughtfully prepared, good food. Skip this place altogether.

Do not recommend

Poor overall, service wasn’t great and food was tasteless and deceiving . A chorizo Argentino, is nothing less than a sausage and a shrimp tacos is nothing but a taco I’d better describe it as a tortilla with 3 grilled shrimps ( no oignon, no coriander, no sauce of any kind, lime … ) Over all way too expensive for what it is. So far the worse of our stay. I wouldn’t recommend. Avoid absolutely this tourist trap .

Just walking by, we tried this restaurant and we loved it! Good food, good service and good holiday atmosphere! We can recommend the surf&turf, with a very tasty squid and crab.

Awesome local food

Horrible service, food is mediocre at best.

The service takes forever, even to get another beer. The pasta was good, but needed a bit of seasoning. The tacos were horrible. The fish tacos we didn't even really eat, the batter was soft and chewy, supposed to be baja battered tacos. Ordered a bottle of water and they brought a $20 bottle, luckily I caught them before they opened it and sent it back.
