Noonan: FCC defender, Cincinnati native Hagglund available for selection after hamstring surgery
FC Cincinnati defender and Cincinnati native Nick Hagglund is available for selection to make his return to the pitch, according to head coach Pat Noonan.
Noonan spoke on Hagglund's availability at a press conference Wednesday ahead of the first leg of the club's second-round CONCACAF Champions Cup matchup against CF Monterrey.
Hagglund has not seen the field since last year's Decision Day match against Atlanta United, playing in 34 matches across all competitions for the Orange and Blue in 2023.
A product of Lakota West and Xavier, Hagglund underwent surgery on a torn hamstring tendon in November, missing the entirety of the club's playoff run after sustaining the injury while in training leading up the team's first-round playoff matchup against the New York Red Bulls.
Hagglund is the club's all-time leader in games played, games started, and minutes played after joining the team via trade from Toronto in their initial 2019 MLS campaign.
One of the stalwarts of Cincinnati's back line in 2023, it's highly probable Hagglund will be used as a fresh set of legs after the Orange and Blue reinforced their backline this offseason with the signings of U.S. Men's National Team defenders Miles Robinson and DeAndre Yedlin.
Hagglund's return to the pitch could come as soon as Thursday when the Orange and Blue open the second round of the CONCACAF Champions Cup against Liga MX side CF Monterrey in the Cincinnati return of Brandon Vazquez.
