Sony announced on Thursday that its new I Know What You Did Last Summer film from director Jennifer Kaytin Robinson (Do Revenge) will be released via Columbia Pictures on July 18, 2025.

Written by Kaytin Robinson & Sam Lansky, off a script by Leah McKendrick, the film’s plot is under wraps for now, but stars Freddie Prinze Jr. and Jennifer Love Hewitt are expected to return. Neal Moritz is producing.

Launching the careers of Hewitt, Prinze, Sarah Michelle Gellar and Ryan Phillippe, the franchise kicked off with 1997’s I Know What You Did Last Summer, which introduced viewers to four friends who’ve accidentally run over a pedestrian while driving on a coastal road one night. In their panic, they decide to dispose of the body in the ocean and vow never to speak of the incident again. However, a year later, they start receiving cryptic messages from someone who seems to know about their dark secret. The situation escalates as they are stalked and attacked by a mysterious figure wielding a hook.

The success of the original film led to a number of sequels, including 1998’s I Still Know What You Did Last Summer and 2006’s I’ll Always Know What You Did Last Summer. In 2021, the franchise was reimagined as a television series that debuted on Prime Video.

News of the date for I Know What You Did Last Summer follows Universal’s announcement of numerous pieces of release date news. This included Blumhouse’s thriller The Woman in the Yard being set to open on Friday, March 28, 2025, with Platinum Dunes and Blumhouse’s Drop debuting on Friday, April 11, 2025 and Blumhouse’s Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 to scare up box office on Friday, December 5, 2025.

Also announced was the fact that Blumhouse’s The Black Phone 2 will shift from June 27, 2025 to Friday, October 17, 2025, with Blumhouse’s M3GAN 2.0 shifting from from May 16, 2025 into the June slot. All of the Uni films will open wide.

May 1, 2024 Interviews, TV Shows

Wedding bells are about to ring on 9-1-1. Well, probably.

In promos for the new episode, airing Thursday, May 2 on ABC, the groom, Howard “Chimney” Han (Kenneth Choi) is missing and without his tuxedo while his groomsmen, Buck (Oliver Stark) and Eddie (Ryan Guzman), look disheveled as they try to recover from a Hangover-like bachelor party. The bride, Maddie Buckley (Jennifer Love Hewitt), meanwhile, is stressed and ultimately runs out of the venue to find Chimney.

But before fans can find out what all that’s about — and if the wedding will even happen — Hewitt, 45, shares in the exclusive behind-the-scenes video above why she has been rooting for Maddie and Chimney since the very beginning.

“My very first day of work, Tim [Minear, an executive producer] was like, ‘What do you want to do on 9-1-1 as Maddie?'” Hewitt recalls of joining the cast in season 2. “I said, ‘I want Maddie to fall in love with Chimney.’ And he was like, ‘Why? You guys just met.’ I was like, ‘There is just something about him that feels right for her and I think it would be really good. And we got to do it!”

She adds, “It’s just been amazing. [Choi is] like truly one of my favorite people on the earth and we just love Maddie and Chimney so much together. And the audience really responded to it and when that happens, it’s just like magical.”

As for the wedding itself, Hewitt admits, “it has been a long time coming. I think it feels more like that for the audience than for us. I think they’ve been waiting a long time, but I’m excited. It’s really good.”

Hewitt, who shares three children with her husband of more than a decade, actor Brian Hallisay since 2013, also shared the moment she was able to have as Maddie that she didn’t experience in preparation for her own wedding.

“It was very sweet. Alayna [Bell-Price], the costume designer on the show, actually made like a real bridal suite because I didn’t get to do that in my own life,” Hewitt says. “So we go in and there were all these dresses. It was really nice. I think someone in the room cried even. It wasn’t me this time. I usually cry but I didn’t.”

When they found the dress Maddie would ultimately wear, they knew it. “It just felt like Maddie to us, so we were really excited about it.”
