West Ham United transfer news as Goncalo Borges now on cards – Fabrizio Romano

West Ham United are interested in signing FC Porto attacker Goncalo Borges towards the final days of the summer transfer window, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The Italian journalist, taking to his personal Twitter account has reported on Thursday 17 August that the young Portuguese winger could now be on the move with clubs starting to form an interest in his talented services.

Premier League rivals Everton have also been named in the hunt to get a deal for the 22-year-old winger over the line towards the end of the window.

Romano tweeted: “West Ham and Everton are interested in Porto winger Gonçalo Borges as deal for final days of the transfer window.

“2001 born winger, attracting interest as could be on the move.”

Don’t want Borges nightmare repeat

The last time West Ham United were interested in a player with the name Borges, it really didn’t end so well.

Manchester City’s former young wonder Carlos Borges looked to have completed a deal to join the club but then Dutch giants Ajax hijacked the deal to sign him, and it appears as though the Irons are wanting another go at a different Borges.

The FC Porto winger, despite his lack of experience at the top level, would be an exciting addition, it seems, and with rivals Everton also sniffing, it may be smart to make the first move very quickly, with David Moyes desperately wanting reinforcements in attack.

Apart from Jarrod Bowen and Maxwel Cornet, the Hammers lack an out-an-out winger to add a whole new dimension to their attack for this season, and Borges’ talents are one which cannot be ignored.

Possessing tremendous pace, technical acumen, dribbling qualities and a directness that allows him to excel in his 1v1 duels, the 22-year-old could form a frightening outlet with Moyes’ counter-attacking system so it’s easy to see why West Ham United are interested.

It remains to be seen how much FC Porto would want to allow Borges to leave, but what is clear, the Hammers won’t want a repeat of the nightmare they endured for Borges’ namesake.

In other West Ham news, a potential Chelsea hijack is on the cards in the Hammers’ pursuit of one leading European attacking midfield player.
