American Cameron Dye, one of the sport’s most successful non-drafting short-course athletes, has announced that he is retiring from the sport of triathlon. The 34-year-old says that the Major League Triathlon in Charlotte on Oct. 6 was his last as a professional.
“After 12 years of chasing a dream around the world it is time to hang it up and move on the next adventure,” he posted on Instagram. “Thank you so much to everyone I have met along the way. To my amazing family and friends, and to the sponsors that helped make it possible I will forever be grateful for your unwavering support.”
He also posted a short blog, titled “The End”, on Innervoice.life. He wrote about the competitive drive it takes to compete as a professional, and says he was grateful to compete against so many of the sport’s best.
“Here’s to you Alistair and Javier, Crowie and Macca,” he wrote. “And then there was Greg Bennett who had an uncanny ability to show up on the biggest stages and knock it out of the park.”
Dye spent the early years of his career competing on the ITU circuit but had his best finishes in the Life Time Tri Series, which he won three times, and other non-drafting Olympic-distance races throughout the past decade.
