Hollywood megastars Oscar Isaac and Kristen Stewart are set to lead a new vampire film by the visionary director of Mandy, Panos Cosmatos. Titled Flesh of the Gods, the movie will be a lust-filled look at 1980s Los Angeles, and feature Stewart and Isaac as a married couple “seduced into a glamorous, surrealistic world of hedonism.” As per Variety, Flesh of the Gods will be launching in Cannes with WME Independent, CAA Media Finance and XYZ Films. It will be written by Andrew Kevin Walker, who is best known for writing the classic David Fincher film, Seven.

"Flesh of the Gods is set in glittering ’80s L.A., where married couple Raoul (Isaac) and Alex (Stewart) each evening descend from their luxury skyscraper condo and head into the city’s electric nighttime realm. When they cross paths with a mysterious and enigmatic figure known as Nameless and her hard-partying cabal, the pair are seduced into a glamorous, surrealistic world of hedonism, thrills and violence."

This will mark the third collaboration between Cosmatos and XYZ Films, who teamed up previously on the Nicolas Cage surrealistic action horror film Mandy, and currently have Nekrokosm in development with A24, which is described as “a phantasmagorical fantasy nightmare set deep within a strange galaxy where two lovers are torn apart as they try to survive a malevolent invasion.”

Flesh of the Gods Aims to Be 'Wildly Commercial & Wildly Artful'

The news of Flesh of the Gods comes at a time when vampire films seem to be on the rise in the mainstream once again. Although the recently released Abigail by directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett has only earned $29.6 million dollars at the box office thus far against its budget of $28 million, it has been universally praised by critics and fans for breathing new life into the sub-genre. Nosferatu by director Robert Eggers drops later this year, and in 2023, viewers were treated to two notable vampire films by way of The Last Voyage of the Demeter, and Renfield.

Director Panos Cosmatos teases Flesh of the Gods as both “propulsive and hypnotic.” He says that it will take viewers on a ride into the “glittering heart of hell.”

Producer Adam McKay of Hyperobject Industries says that Flesh of the Gods is “wildly commercial and wildly artful.” He aims to make a film that will resonate with audiences similar to the way films like Near Dark and The Lost Boys did in the past.

There's no word yet on additional casting for Flesh of the Gods, but Oscar Isaac will appear next as Dr. Victor Frankenstein in Guillermo del Toro's Frankenstein, which is currently filming, and Kristen Stewart can currently be seen in the A24 romantic thriller, Love Lies Bleeding.
