I am a diehard Mike Oldfield fan and my collection continues to grow- I am intently pursuing rare cd singles and memorabillia. This cd single Hibernaculum is titled for track eleven from TSODE (The Songs of Distant Earth- for the uninitiated)released in 94'. The ethereal beauty of the Hibernaculum track is followed by two superb tracks that have never appeared on a studio release, or any compilation for that matter.
The Spectral army and The Song Of The Boat Men- these songs are similar in nature and aura, they have that pastoral and tranquil vibration that Oldfield utilizes in so many wonderful pieces of music. The Spectral Army has a celtic foundation with vast and flying emotion attached to the notes. The Song Of The Boat Men is another piece that takes its time- with a peaceful and soothing melody and gorgeous synth waves in the scenery. The final two tracks are an excellent companion for the spacy Hibernaculum. As with all of Mike's eps, the song selection is brilliant and each track complements one another.
I would expect that this and most singles are more in the range of fans than listeners who are new to Mike's music. Completionists and collectors, like myself are certainly the ones after these offerings.
After a long search I was able to procure this cd at a fantastic price and it is right at home in my large collection.
If you have never heard Mike Oldfield's music, go now and listen to Tubular Bells like your life depends on it- you will be exposed to musical humanity the likes of which you have never experienced.
Take care everyone.
