Summary

  • Brooklynn's fate in Jurassic World: Chaos Theory is sealed as Jenna Ortega steps back amid her rising stardom.
  • Ortega's step back is shocking, given she voiced the role of Brooklynn for all of Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous' seasons.
  • Ortega's packed schedule with major projects explains her exit, leading to Brooklynn's death driving the narrative of the sequel.

The trailer for Jurassic World: Chaos Theory reveals the fate of Camp Cretaceous camper Brooklynn, whose death is assumed to be a consequence of Jenna Ortega's ever-increasing fame. Ortega may have shot into the limelight after starring in the Netflix knockout show Wednesday but has performed in plenty of other recognizable roles and fostered a solid animation career, voicing characters in series like Elena of Avalor, Big City Greens, and Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous. In the Jurassic World animated spinoff series Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous, Ortega voiced camp member Brooklynn through all five seasons.

Camp Cretaceous season 5 ended the series in July 2022, with the Jurassic World franchise following it up with the forthcoming sequel show, Jurassic World: Chaos Theory, set six years after the former series' events and featuring many original characters. Unexpectedly, Jurassic World: Chaos Theory's newly released trailer confirms that, while original characters such as Sammy, Ben, and Yasmine will return in the sequel series, Brooklynn will not. Brooklynn seemingly succumbs to a targeted dinosaur attack that will spur the basis of the sequel series - though Ortega's soaring popularity may be another factor in her cause of death.

Jenna Ortega Is Not Returning For Jurassic World: Chaos Theory

Another Voice Actor Replaced Jenna Ortega For Chaos Theory

Brooklynn appears in Jurassic World: Chaos Theory's trailer for a brief moment, speaking her last words into her camera before attempting to escape the pursuit of a charging dinosaur. As disheartening as it is to bear witness to Brooklynn's final moments is to hear her expression of distress, noticeably made by another voice actress in Ortega's stead. In conjunction with the finality of Brooklynn's death and the fact that Ortega is missing from the sequel's billed cast and crew, it's safe to say that Ortega is not returning for Jurassic World: Chaos Theory.

Jurassic World: Chaos Theory is slated to premiere in 2024 on Netflix.

The news gives the impression of coming out of left field when considering that Ortega has been the voice of Brooklynn since 2020. Well before her most highly regarded roles in Wednesday, Scream, and Finestkind, Ortega consistently captured the hearts of Camp Cretaceous fans with the social media-obsessed but companionable teen Brooklynn. That said, her departure from the role makes progressively more sense, given her whirlwind rise to superstardom and the several large and highly anticipated projects she has upcoming.

Jenna Ortega's Schedule Could Explain Brooklynn's Jurassic World Death

Jenna Ortega Has Several Major Upcoming Releases

Naturally, as Ortega becomes more and more of a star, viewers are pressed to see more of her, and productions are quick to cast her. The future of her career will only continue to shine brighter, though, as of now, it's looking considerably brilliant, as it's packed with highly anticipated roles in Wednesday season 2 and Tim Burton's Beetlejuice sequel. While Wednesday and Beetlejuice have become the most notable of Ortega's upcoming projects with audiences, she's also starring in several other approaching productions, all of which could explain why the actress is not returning for Jurassic World: Chaos Theory.

Ortega's upcoming projects no doubt have packed her schedule, which may mean the actress couldn't reprise her role as Brooklynn because she's becoming too big a star. Instead of waiting on Oretega's schedule or recasting her Camp Cretaceous character, Jurassic World: Chaos Theory seemingly decided to kill Brooklynn and use the loss to catalyze the sequel's story. Brooklynn's death is shocking, of course, but at the very least, fans won't have to grapple with the loss of Ortega's voice, and Jurassic World: Chaos Theory will get to avenge her death in a storyline that's sure to be twisty and compelling.
