I love Hanover College, and I've never regretted deciding to become a Hanover student! The faculty and staff are so kind and it's so clear that they genuinely care about us as individuals and learners. It really is a campus where no one knows a stranger, and I love that. Students are more than just a college statistic, and beyond students knowing each other, we also grow close to faculty and staff, which, from my experience at Hanover, enriches the learning happening here.
I was terrified when headed to Hanover. I'm pretty introverted, and struggle to reach out and make friends easily. Hanover changed all that. While the food is not great and the dorms can be gross at times (toilets do NOT flush and dorms flooding is not unheard of), the cons are so overpowered by all of the pros. It's so easy to become involved on campus. I joined athletic teams, student-led clubs, and Greek Life and still had time to maintain straight As and make Dean's List every semester. In all seriousness, I think my involvement on campus actually furthered my academics instead of damaging them. The people I met and the resources they gave me allowed me to succeed in so many different areas of campus life. I've developed genuine friendships with some of my professors because of how tight-knit the campus community is. If you are looking to make connections and network while succeeding academically and creating some of the best memories, this is the place for you.
In the academic aspect, Hanover College seems to be frequently overlooked. It has wide variety of study options that grow and evolve every year, despite being a small, private school. The professors are very encouraging and personable towards students, so the completion of rigorous coursework is satisfying and enriching. The environment and community are very welcoming towards new students, with heavy emphasis on participation and trying new experiences in all aspects whether educational or social. As a commuter student, there are still ample opportunities for me to participate in off and on-campus activities. This school will support you wholeheartedly while you take the next steps in your life. The only drawbacks are those consistent with all institutional academic struggles, especially in the financial aspect (Hanover College is unfortunately very expensive to attend); and there could be a higher degree of diversity among both students and staff.
