Ginny & Georgia tells the story its story across two timelines, one in the present day and the other taking place several years in the past when Georgia was a young girl. These flashback scenes exist to give us insight into Georgia's past and help us understand why she is so tough now.

In season 1, the flashbacks introduced us to Ginny’s father, Zion, and Georgia’s first husband, Anthony Green. In season 2 shifted we met Austin’s father, Gil Timmins, who began as a sweet, mild-mannered man before a more sinister side appeared.

Nikki Roumel has spoken about the importance of the flashback scenes in the series where we see Georgia as a young mother: “You really get to see her grow as a character and as a person; it’s a lot more of a tie-in for the confident Georgia now.”

Writers and executive producer, Lampert and Fisher say that they intended for the second season to continue to show the messy relationship between Ginny and Georgia while also highlighting how much Ginny needs her mom despite knowing her darkest secrets.

“I don’t think we’re really interested in labeling a character good or bad or right or wrong,” creator Lampert explained. “We want people to have different opinions and exist in this kind of gray area where characters are dynamic. Just like life, sometimes they do the right thing. And sometimes they do the wrong thing.”

“I’m not interested in answering that because the answer isn’t simple,” Lambert said when asked whether Georgia was a good parent, or not.

Fisher likes to look at Georgia as a “balanced” character instead of a "good" or a "bad" one. Season 2 of Ginny & Georgia was released on Netflix on January 5, 2023, with all 10 episodes of the series available to stream.
