ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ) - A young boy hit with a car in southwest Roanoke Thursday evening has died from his injuries, according to Roanoke Police.
Police were called about 5:35 p.m. March 21, 2024 about a crash involving a pedestrian in the 2500 block of Avenham Avenue SW. Officers found a boy, a student at Crystal Spring Elementary School, lying in the road with what appeared to be critical injuries, according to police. He was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. His name and age have not been released.
Preliminary investigation indicates the driver in this crash was traveling south on Avenham when the boy entered the road and was hit with the vehicle. The driver remained on scene and is cooperating with the investigation, according to police.
Police say there is no indication the driver was speeding or impaired at the time of the crash. Investigators are still working to determine the specific events leading to this crash.
