MLB Opening Day fixtures

April 7, 2022 - April 8, 2022 - The Opening Day of the Major League Baseball (MLB) -- the oldest of the four major professional sports leagues in the United States and Canada -- arrives a week later than planned after a labour dispute between owners and players. Rivals Boston Red Sox face the New York Yankees in the first game of the year.

A total of 30 teams play in the National League (NL) and American League (AL) -- 15 in each. Teams are to play a162-game season, which culminates in the World Series, a best-of-seven championship series between the top two teams which takes place in October.

The Atlanta Braves are the reigning World Series champions, having crushed Houston Astros in 2021 World Series to win first title since 1995.
